suprarich - i saw your cerbera in redcar the other week, looks fantastic and sounds lovely. I remember your Supra that seemed a right animal! anyway i worked out the bhp/ton on my car recently. rolling road printout from RS Tuning in Leeds then i took it round to EMR and on the weighbridge, 1020kgs so i make that 232bhp/ton? it's a bit rough around the edges, but it's get broke for parts soon, so i can use the good bits on my mk1 golf project

Just one naff iphone photo of my new car. A 1999 Audi A8 4.2 V8 Quattro. Absolutely loaded with toys and a joy to drive. The biggest issue being that it's off road whilst I sell my Impreza and change my insurance over. Still, a lot to look forward to...

Got it insured today. Going to take it for a little run after work tomorrow or on Thursday and put some petrol in it, and then take the Impreza home for a wash and valet. Once that is done I'll probably bring the A8 home.

After 3 months of being under a sheet, shifted around spare storage solutions... It's on the road. Briefly! Until failing to start this morning.

Was thinking the same, that sort of mpg, unless you're a lottery winner, will quickly take the fun out of it.

Suspect this will be as short ownership. Great car though. Well over £100 to fill up? Yes, but it does have a 90 litre tank, so if you go for a big fill every now and then you can keep yourself away from the pumps for a while. Not sure about the 12mpg though! When I got the car it was showing 34.1mpg, a quick blast down some B roads near Ponteland had it showing 28-26mpg and back onto the A19/A1058 brought me back to 32mpg as I parked it up. My daily commute will change soon when I move house, and it'll be a 24 mile round trip, 90% on dual carriageways. So whilst I'm not expecting diesel type mpg, I'm not expecting it to be any worse than what I've really seen already. Plus, the only cars I've ever owned that would do 40mpg are my Impreza and my Volvo S60 2.0T. So no real reason to change... The biggest repair worry is the gearbox. £1500 for a replacement from a specialist. I'll be maintaining a good war chest to fund that if it breaks. Not that there is any sign of that, the car comes with service history for the box and it all works well with no nasty noises, no clunky changes even on kickdown or tiptronic mode. My plan is just to keep it and run it for as long as it will go, and I intend to make that years and years. For something that essentially costs buttons to buy, I might as well. And getting so much enjoyment from it, more than I ever would from going out and buying a new car.
