Dont want to disappoint you but every vehicle in that picture are used for driver training. Not as undercover cars.
There is one of the 5 series with 2 lines and a circle on the top and probably letters on the back. Does this indicate a proper police car so it can be seen from the chopper or something? any one know what they mean, i've spent ages trying to work them out (and standing on the footbridge over the A167 at nevills cross lol)bic said:

They're parked on bridges, usually around Thirsk and Middlesbrough. Any idea what they might be? I'm curious more than anything else, as other road users tend to panic-brake on seeing them.

I think they are Highways Agency vans.
I think you'll find they're subcontractors to Balfour Beatty or somebody similar (it does say on the vans). I've seen them loads of times this last week or two up as far as Washington, all they're doing is picking up litter They do have a habit of parking on the bridges, not sure whether they've been told to or whether they think it's funny but I have noticed a few people sh!tting themselves and braking hard when they see them. As far as I'm concerned they should make it illegal to park on bridges, that way you'd know that anything up there was the fil... er, the Police, or whatever bum-raping government department feels the need to watch over us
In short, nothing to see here, move on (as quickly as possible )

not undercover but i flew past a camera van at the Bowes incline A1 split today northbound, gutted.....had a work car with orange flashing lights on the roof parked behind it so thought it was highway maintainance so only slowed down slightly.
fingers crossed...gulp
Hi And, trying to work out exactly where you mean, was this where the road goes off to the roundabout for low fell?, and what was the position of the van?? Travel this location most days, never seen a van there except when there were roadworks. Very dodgy.fingers crossed...gulp
Spotted a undercover biker on the A19 this evening. Silver bike. Touring type. Had a box on each side of it. Rider had a black jacket with white lid. Undertook us in the wrong lane then quickly before jumped lanes to be infront of us, naughty naughty!
Very hard to spot him i bet cause i only noticed as he went past the window that he had POLICE written on his lid.
The bike looked very very simler to this, same colour. Almost exactly the same exept for the big box on the top of the rear.
