There are quite a few areas around stoke etc that are quite nice. I live in one of the few nice parts of Goldenhill, just outside stoke but work in Alsager, Sandbach and occasionally Newcastle-Under-Lyme.

Alsager is nice, has some new(ish) estates but is very much full of old people!!
Sandbach and surrounding areas are very nice, and the M6 pretty much runs right past the outskirts of the town as well as there being decent main roads to Crewe etc..

Mow Cop has been mentioned, very nice area too but probably not the best roads for commuting plus it's horrific in winter!

The madeley area is very nice too, not been around Stafford itself so can't really comment on areas to live around there..

And to finish (sorry for the essay!) if any of you guys see me about ('Sea Grey' '56 reg Fiesta Zetec S, white PH smiley under the ZS badge!) feel free to give me a shout smile Also, would love to meet up with some local PH'ers so send me a pm if anything is organised!

Hope the house-hunting goes well mate ..

I was living just off Broadway in Meir until a few months ago so know the area well. Used to frequent the.. um.. lovely Longton quite a bit. Used to commute through to Fenton on my bike that way too.

But no, I don't remember that far back as I wasn't living in the area then tongue out

As above though, Anyone see a black Honda CR-V (mk1) driving around with a massive PH smilie on the back. Thats me. Give us a wave!

I live in Stafford - my assessment of Stafford is pleasant, safe as anywhere else, but dull (I actually think that is an advantage smile ) I've been here 40 years... At least you can get a good pint and it is easy to get out of...
That's useful info, been haivng a quick broswe round rightmove for somewhere suitable, either a four bed or big three bed, must have a garage, would like a decent sized garden but it's not essential. Good motorway access is an advantage. Are there any parts worth seeking out and any others that should be avoided?
By and large (not absolutely though) the south of Stafford is nicer than the North (and ST17 postcode attracts lower insurance than ST16 for example) - in terms of area it depends on if you prefer newer or mature properties. Stafford is good for the M6 (shame the M6 is so rubbish) as there is south J13 and north J14 access

I'm aiming between Stoke and the Northern bits of Birmingham, therefore don't want anywhere North of Stoke, as well as being close to the M6, hence Stafford seems a good option.

I did mention Sandbach as a nice place to live, understand its probably a bit far past stoke for you but the M6 runs within a mile or so of the town centre so has nice and easy access smile

Penkridge, just south of Stafford.
Nice village, easy access to J13 and J14 of the M6. Gets busy on market days!
Hourly train service between Liverpool and Birmingham (Crewe/Stafford/Wolves)

Never lived there but my dentist is there and when I worked in Four Ashes, Penkridge was the nearest town so went there a lot.
When we moved last year, Penkridge was on the list of places we'd move to.

If you are working in Stoke, I would tend to go North of Stafford for rush hour traffic reasons; the area around Tittensor/Eccleshall/Swynnerton is very nice with a good range of property from very old to new build. Some good pubs and restaurants around and very good road links to pretty much anywhere. As previously mentioned, the Stoke area isn't as bad as is generally made out.

Rather late to the thread so you have probably got somewhere now!

I live in Stafford (moved down from Yorkshire about 5 years ago), where to live depends on schools if you have kids. Or not if you don't. Current best high school is Graham Balfour in the north of Stafford closely followed by Walton High in the south.

If you haven't got kids then there is nowhere that is that bad so if you find a nice house it'd tend to be in an OK area. If I had the money I'd like to live in Milford (right on Cannock Chase).

If you have any q's drop me a line.

Yep, it's not exactly discrete is it?! I'll keep an eye out for you!

It's not bad for petrolheads around here - the plumber at the top has an RS5, the guy a few doors down is rebuilding a Spitfire in his garage, a few doors up is a heavily tuned R32 Skyline, the guy behind me has a C63 AMG, there is a handbuilt turbo engined mini just the other side of the ponds, the valeter round the corner has a tidy RS focus, and a guy opposite here has a thing for old classics.
