It was mad tonight in lots of ways and will probably be my last visit for a while, Maybe I'm getting old or too fussy but for me it has lost most of its appeal.
For me it has changed from a classic/sportscar meet to a general free for all, far too many shopping trolleys on the field ( alot of which had for sale signs on ) and lots of little cliques of club members ( sorry I never did get the stretched tyres scene)
Yes the turnout was excellent but sadly I preferd when as you entered the field you were asked not to rev too much to avoid upsetting the locals and when day to day cars parked off the field.
Having walked about and not been impressed particularly by the Granada Scorpio, Pug 205 zest, and various other daily runabouts parked in the middle of the field, The final couple of straws for me were seeing someone set up a table at the back of the car to start selling stuff and when the Aventador convoy arrived and people were too busy admiring the scoobies to notice.
As i said all IMHO ( Yes Im a mid 40's old git )
I must be a mid 20s old git then as I agree with everything you said. I've been going for a few years now and the rise of 'normal cars' is grinding a little. For me it has changed from a classic/sportscar meet to a general free for all, far too many shopping trolleys on the field ( alot of which had for sale signs on ) and lots of little cliques of club members ( sorry I never did get the stretched tyres scene)

If I can't make it in a decent car I'll take the daily but park it on the road outside.
Had to smile last night as some yoof in a rental spec Astra that had parked right in the middle of the field moaned when he was well and truly boxed in, if you want to leave at 7:30 it might be an idea to park your hatchback on the road or at least on the side of the field, then you wouldn't be sat in your car bhing about being stuck for 3/4 of an hour.
Some stunning cars again, and nice to see the boys from SK Motors bringing some exotic stock for everyone to drool over.

I agree wholeheartedly that the modern stuff shouldn't be on the show field.
For those thinking of not going again.. give it another chance next month as a mate actually rung the Griffin's Head this morning and complained. Next meeting they are having someone on the gate to make sure it's only the classics that go on the field.

And what exactly is a classic ???????For those thinking of not going again.. give it another chance next month as a mate actually rung the Griffin's Head this morning and complained. Next meeting they are having someone on the gate to make sure it's only the classics that go on the field.

That's a shame, I went in my 599 and was going to go again in my 458 Spider, but no point if this is the rule now.For those thinking of not going again.. give it another chance next month as a mate actually rung the Griffin's Head this morning and complained. Have been going for three years in my 78' mgb and have no issues with classic or supercars, but big problems last night with astras, fords, nissan micras and other bog standard modern motors cluttering up the field. Did anyone go out by the crossroads at the pub about 7.20 ? I did for a look. Utter chaos with big hold ups for people simply passing through the village let alone latecomers (yeah i know not that late but heatwave increased demand i guess) in an already too crowded event due partly to first point above. I suspect local bobbies may have views & eventual influence on events at Papplewick. All this despite the decent efforts of the big guy at the gate who was doing his best in impossible circumstance imo.

Yeap, I was in that queue, which would have explained why the car did its best kettle impression when I finally got parked, saw quite a few nice classics turn around and some went for a drink up the road at the horse & groom. I quite like the mix of cars / people that go. But I agree that anything normal shouldn't be on the field. But again someone could be reading this thinking their standard 3 year old hatch is very special?
Imagine they had someone on the gate that determines what goes in and what doesn't - You'd be gutted if you got turned away.
Still IMO the other night was the busiest and best one I've been to there and I looked at the stuff that interested me, had a pint and went. Good atmosphere.
No matter what their taste, everyone there was a car enthusiast!

all it needs is organising a bit better ! when I go in the 335d I try and park it out of the way but this week the where car abandoned everywhere and some people parking long ways against the hedge taking 3/4 places up
But you were taking up 3/4 places on the road on the way to the Red Lion after, kicking stones up that hit my car simonigrale said:
