So from Monday to Friday next week I am in Coventry for a training course. I have never been before and looking online is not proving too fruitful. What would you do with a week of evenings?

You'll be knackered from sitting in a classroom, bizarrely, and there might be something interesting on the TV a couple of nights, which would help.

I've lived 15 miles away for the last few years, and apart from the excellent Belgrade Theatre (currently doing Aladdin, if you fancy a panto? Oh no you don't. Oh yes you do) there's not a whole heap of nighttime activity to recommend.

There are a few decent gastropubs if you fancy a drive out west - the likes of http://www.lovelypubs.co.uk/venues/ are reliably good but there are plenty just a few miles away - especially handy if someone else is driving back.

Apart from that, Coventry has a cinema, casino and a station that takes you to Birmingham in 20 minutes or so. Or you could use the time to learn Japanese or something.

Have you got a car?

There's not a lot, other than the usual like the cinema for the night. The Coventry Ice Hockey team are good if there's a match on?

In the day there's the 2 cathedrals, the museums & bits like that.

Inspire in the city centre is a half decent place for a beer. Good food at the royal oak brandon, or spice at half moon in wolston (Indian).

Mid-week football? Loads of teams not far from there - Birmingham's three teams, Wolves, Leicester, Peterborough, Walsall, Burton, even Derby.

Warwick is not far, and very nice, some good places to eat..

Coventry is in the middle of the, erm, midlands, so not far from loads of places - so take advantage of that, because the best bits of Coventry are the roads out of the place.

Unfortunately not too much to do in cov, the cinema etc but it costs a fortune, the motor museum and the cathedral are both worth a visit but not open in the evenings, I've been here 31 years...

If you find your way out please let me know...

Ah cr#p they're coming back, they can hear me

Don't for.....

Cheers for the suggestions guys, we do have a car and evening entertainment can go on expenses so we will probably have a night in the cinema and have a night at the hotel as well as having a drive out of the city. The 'Inspire' bar looks a good shout too smile

Suicide booth?

Aside from that, sounds like stuff like cinema, along with the challenge of how much booze with sustenance can you legitimately consume and claim, while still being sufficiently alive to get through the training.

The other thing that is worth checking out is the Warwick arts centre, they usually have some decent stuff on in the evenings and it is in Coventry despite the name

Then while away a few interesting hours, trying to identify the curry house that dumped the bag of cats' heads in the street...

Endless fun...smile

Hmm, not a lot springs to mind!

Cinema is an obvious one, bowling etc. Kenilworth has some fantastic pubs and restaurants which are only 10 mins away. Also has a nice castle, although doesnt look so good in the dark! There is a gentlemen's establishment in Cov called Heat, but Ive never been there. Leam's version is called Shades, free entry on Thursday night. Leam in general is nice, start at the top of the parade and work down. As has been said, the train to Brum is pretty quick for some late night shopping at the Bullring and Mailbox.

I read about that place

(cue hearty if misplaced sniggering)

It closed and seems to be being built on

Train to Brum - walk past German market onto Broad Street

Try half heartedly to remember the time for the train back to Purgat.. Coventry.

Try not to need the taxi, unless you have a bottomless taxi budget

Cov is NOT that close to here

It's only five nights at most

what on earth could go wrong?
