Agree with all of the above but Kibworth is better.

Joking aside. The whole of the Harborough District is in my view the best of Leicestershire and I've lived in 2 other areas of the county. Wherever you end up in this district you won't be disappointed.
As for eateries in Harbs. The best places are; Venetos, Ascoughs, Golden Orchid & The Red Lion at Great Bowden which is just outside Harborough.
The Ice Bar cafe in the summer for their awesome Ice Cream.
Venetos is our regular Friday night meal with friends - Can't be beaten for value and lovely fresh cooked Italian food.As for eateries in Harbs. The best places are; Venetos, Ascoughs, Golden Orchid & The Red Lion at Great Bowden which is just outside Harborough.

Ascoughs - over rated and over priced IMHO
Golden Orchid - not been there for years but always empty.
Red Lion - I've never been but will give it a try.
Tried Wildowood recently and that was pretty good. the staff are very easy on the eye too.
There are a few good pubs in the nearby villages that do really good food. The Old Barn at Glooston used to be brilliant although not been for a while.
Personally I think Rutland Water is a bit meh.
Totally agree regarding Veneto's don't know anyone that doesn't like it. I also go frequently.
Haven't tried the Old Barn at Glooston, however the menu always looks interesting. The food at The Bell at Burton Overy is good, also the Swan at Braybrooke. I like the Queens Head at Saddington, often go there for Sunday lunch with friends.
I love Boboli's in Kibworth, it's great but considerably more expensive than Veneto's so that's where I tend to go more. I'm going to The Lighthouse in Kibworth this week for the first time, very much looking foreword to that.
For a drink and the atmosphere I always enjoy going in The Three Swans in town.

I can't be having that Ascoughs is overrated or overpriced. £22.50 for a 3 course dinner and for the quality of the food they turn out.

Hmm, Ascoughs must have changed their pricing then as when they were in their old premises they used to be a "speacial occasion" type place as far as we were concerned. Then after we got atrocious service and were treated like lepers when we complained we boycotted the place.Totally agree regarding Veneto's don't know anyone that doesn't like it. The Swan at Braybrooke is a good call. Been there quite a lot recently.
Our friends are Belgians and very food oreientated and a few yers ago we used to try a new place every Friday until one of them lost theor jobs and we reverted to a regular Friday night at Venetos.
Consequently we have tried most of the pubs in the outlying villages. I just can't remember most of them now or wher they are but there are many.
Some of the best driving roads in the Midlands IMHO are in leicestershir/Northants.
I love the road from Harborough to Uppingham via Medbourne (B664) and then returning via Morcot, Caldecott, Great Easton, middleton and Ashley. And for a quick stop there's Eye Brook Reservoir.
Alfahorn, have we met?

If anyone else has suggestions on where to stay please post up - I think we'll be up most weekends until at least May so would be good to stay in a few locations.

If you're feeling very flush, I found Stapleford Park very agreeable and its only a short drive to Oakham/Rutland water.
