We're back on - forecast looks good so we're leaving 8am Saturday!!!

Going to base ourselves in Market Harborough for the weekend and use the first trip to familiarise ourselves with some of the basics of the area.

I'll be the guy looking lost if you're in the area biggrin
Good place to start. Where are you gong to be staying?

Nowhere seems busy so going to wing it and see what we feel like/find when we get there. The Angel in the high street seems a good back up option if nothing else pans out.

...If you fancy a hoon, try the B6047 from Harborough to Melton Mowbray (and back).
That forms part of my commute - Harborough to Sileby via Tilton and Queniborough, so I only miss a few miles of the last bit to Melton which, from memory, is not the best part anyway and is more than made up for in the run down to Queniborough.

If you do drive any of these roads then be careful as there are regularly cars in the ditches. There were 2 last night and one looked pretty serious just outside Tilton on the Hill.

I think there's some renovation work going on at The Angel. It's a little dated.

I would suggest the Three Swans if you want to be in town, it's a best western and has a nice bar.

The Travelodge on Abbey Street is central and has a car park close by if your want function over form.

Tiring smile

Ended up checking out most places on Saturday (Market H, Oakham, Uppingham, M Mowbray and a load of other places I cannot even remember). Started with a nice cuppa at Tyre Treads house - cheers again Alan!

We stayed at the Whipper Inn in Oakham and drank far too much with some locals in the pub next door smile

The good news was the trip made us realise we prefer smaller places - loved Oakham for example - rather than the towns as we prefer the more rural feel but still amongst people.

So as a first trip it was really good. We could definitely see ourselves up in that part of the world, so the next few trips in Feb and March will be great to get more familiar and to also explore more.

Thanks for asking!

That's why I like living in Kibworth. We have three villages close together; Kibworth Harcourt, Kibworth Beauchamp & Smeeton Westerby. The population is around 6,000.

We have good amenities in our community including a couple of great restaurants and a selection of cracking shops. We're surrounded by miles and miles of fantastic countryside. We're situated 7 miles from Market Harborough and 9 from Leicester.

Glad you like this part of the world. It is in my view largely underrated and a bit of a hidden gem.

We missed off your specific area on this run so will make sure that's where we visit next time out.

It certainly is a lovely part of the world.

No apology required - you and Alison were fabulous!

Yes we got around. I think we got the hotel after 6pm in the end so it was a long day in the car and walking around the villages.

I'm a bit late to this but I moved up to Warwickshire from Devon about 18 months ago for work reasons. I'm in a little village called Bubbenhall that's just north of Leamington Spa and Warwick and east of Kenilworth. Leamington and Warwick are lovely towns with good restaurants and pubs. Birmingham is easily accessible, so the NEC is available for motor shows, concerts etc. and also has a major airport for those essential holidays. Stratford is about half an hour south. I'm probably 3 miles from Stoneleigh park as the crow flies, so Race Retro and the kit car show are on my door step. Silverstone doesn't take too long to get to for motor racing either. The big changes for us from Devon are that it's very flat round here and everything is so close together.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the sea. Before we moved up I spent five and a half years commuting from Exeter to Warwick on a weekly basis. As a result, the though of jumping in a car to go to the beach at weekends wasn't that appealing, especially in the summer when the beach was full of grockles. We did it on occasion, as the dog loved it there, but I grew to resent it rather than enjoy it as time went by.

I'm a 5 minute cycle (15 min walk) to the sea from where I am currently. I prefer it in the Winter when it's 'mine' again and don't normally go down during the Summer but Lou goes swimming nearly every day in the sea so that's a big consideration for us.
