Hi all,

A possible move to Mansfield may be on the cards. Are there any recommended (or not) areas to live and what's Mansfield like in general?

We would prefer south, south east of the town and don't need to be near any schools or anything.

Cheers

Ravenshead and Newstead Abbey Park (as places to live, the latter far more costly than the former). Both are about 10 minutes south of Mansfield down the A60 towards Nottingham.

I'll agree with that? I've lived in Mansfield all my life ( only 26 years) and them 2 are probably best places to choose from. Mansfield itself is a vibrant little town with a few nice places to eat etc depending on what you like and nightlife is alright although same place constantly can get a little boring imo

I've got to admit it's 10 years since I've really been to Mansfield after working there for more than 20 years but I always remember it as a run down ex-mining town where if you went to a club and asked a girl to go outside, she thought you wanted to fight her not fk her.
I guess it's changed smile
Got to agree with the suggestions but I'd also add some of the villages to the East like Farnsfield etc

Well I guess the budget has got to play a little into the choice of area, saying that a quick Rightmove search of a mile from my gaff in Sutton has a spread from £57k-£1.5M rotate
Like has been said, Ravenshead is probably the largest area of condensed 'quality' but I bet there's not much available in the Abbey grounds for under 7 figures, Berry Hill isn't bad for 'new build'.

Thank you for all your replies so far.

Budget wise, around £300k. There seems to be good value for money with some properties and I guess it's down to location as always.

Is there any areas to avoid at all costs?

Yeah I'd say Kirkby area myself, as for Mansfield there's some nice houses on Nottingham road just down from west Nottinghamshire college I believe some are for sale aswell, possibly in your budget, btw did you get my message?

Some of the nearby villages are nice too. Old Teversal for example.

If you are spending £300k you will avoid the worst parts.

As said, Ravenshead is nice, but a bit villagey....lots of nice walks etc

If you want Mansfield itself there are nice leafy parts around Carr Bank Park. South of the town, some nice properties off Lichfield Lane

Harlow Wood is just north of Ravenshead and definetly worth a look.
Ravenshead schools are among the best in Nottinghamshire.
Also look at Oxton, Calverton area's.

The 300k is a maximum and depends if we sell or rent our current place. If we rent I'd be looking around the 200k mark.

Is Kirkby the same as Kirkby in Ashfield? I've noticed places in the latter seem cheaper than similar elsewhere and wondered if it is somewhere to avoid.

I have lived in Kirkby (Kirkby-In-Ashfield) for the last 13 years. Nearly moved 5 years ago to Bingham (south Nottingham), the exact same size house in the middle of a large housing estate was £100k more, just for a postcode.
Like all areas, good and bad are within.
Kirkby area is excellent for commuting, some good schools in/out of catchment, two supermarkets & local shops. Mansfield has the main shops and Nottingham is £3.00 on the new trams from Hucknall.
