Driving the Peak District and Derwent Valley
Discussion
Think this is the nearest geographical forum - if not please feel free to ROFL - so any suggested driving routes and must see places Chaps? Good pubs? Short riverside walks? Snake Pass?
Ooop north on hols for a few days and although there's loads of info for Bycyclistas and those whose idea of fun is hiking through fields of sheep poo for six hours there's so not much for us evil motorists touring the area and killing the environment in our cars.
Industrial heritage places and museums worth a look too would be good to know as well so I can get sweet revenge on Mrs JS who will no doubt be dragging me round the bloody shops at some time.
Cheers

Start at Ashbourne and head north on the A515.
Few miles north of Ashbourne, fork 30R onto B5056. Pub at junction does good lunches. (Bentley Brook Inn, last time there enjoyed a couple of Staffordshire oatcakes filled with bacon, black pudding and all sorts of other goodies.)
Note there is a diversion possible here, see below)
Follow B5056 through Langcliffe, Grangemill, to the west of Winster all the way to the junction with the A6 between Bakewell and Rowsley.
It's much better on the ground than it looks on the map, especially at the northern end.
Suggested diversion, instead of forking off at Bentley Brook Inn, carry on the A515, turn right to Tissington, touristy bits in the village, tea, cakes etc, then carry on through the village, through Tissington ford just before you join the B5056, turn left and as above.
Once you are at Rowsley, not far from Chatsworth house.
Another decent run is start at Bakewell, head WSW on B5055 towards Monyash, Warslow, Crowdecote hairpins and onto Longnor. From there you can go north over Sterndale, or south to Warslow, and then you're into a choice Hartington, Manifold valley, Alstonefield, and all points back to Ashbourne.
North end you have to go over Strines, from the A57 east of Ladybower the road turns left, past Strines Inn and winds over the moors past Wigtwizzle and joins the A616 at either Midhopestones or Langsett.

Up here now so will give these tips a try !!
Just done the Cat n Fiddle - a little disappointed, thought only a small stretch was ok. Speed average traps everywhere ??
Trick is to pull into the layby just after the first camera and give it a few minutes. If you then pull into the pub at the top for a stop then this whole stretch is fair game.Just done the Cat n Fiddle - a little disappointed, thought only a small stretch was ok. Speed average traps everywhere ??
Strines as above is Epic now its been resurfaced, and the Ashbourne/Fenny Bentley/Bakewell road as described above is a total dream given a clear run.
