Interesting place to stay between Grantham and London ?!

Ok, bit of a wide critera this but wondering of an interesting place to stay tomorrow night maybe for 2 nights between Grantham and London.

Will be leaving Grantham around lunchtime and looking for a stop for friday/saturday night before returning to London/south east. Don't care where, just a place that might be lively in the evenings, a few pubs/live music maybe, something to see during the day, preferably not known for car vandalism !

Any ideas ?!
