I thought the same thing! Must be AB1 and I can only assume that it was kept since issue. I would hope they haven't spend the £1000's on the plate as well as the healthily specced 5 series.
Why do Cops need cream leather and factory nav (amoung other things!)
Because BMW/Volvo etc spec the cars up as high as they can for no extra to win the contract to supply cars. It does a great deal for their reputation to be used as traffic cars. I somehow doubt the current youngsters would have any time at all for the gentlemans Volvo V70 if the cool kids weren't going round saying 'Nah man, got chased by T5 is well quick innit" Why do Cops need cream leather and factory nav (amoung other things!)
The current going rate for a Volvo V70 T5 is about 14 grand and a Ford Focus Estate, which forms by far the biggest percentage of our fleet, about 6 and a half grand. Believe me, you don't do too bad with your tax money (on cars at least!)
Was pulled on Sunday by unmarked 09 plate BMW 3 series saloon( DARK BLUE / BLACK) in the Droitwich area. Left a pub and was tailed for 3-4 miles....was not from local area and was lost trying to get back to M40. My hesitant driving style(trying to follow sat nav through one way system) led them to believe i had been drinking but once they pulled me realised I had only been on the cola and lost interest. Nice enough guys though- LEDs on the bumper and lights behind the grille- very discreet. Did not wear the fluoro vests in the car either
Not sure they've still got it, but there used to be a Silver Impreza STI (MY05 shape) that prowled about Rugby, saw it last christmas when I was back from Uni, had a chat with the guys in it, said it was mainly for catching boy-racers and other speeding things (like blatant, over-the limit stuff) and he said it was the best panda car he'd been in - completely unmarked, blue flashers in grills & rear light clusters iirc.

It's a very fetching Platinum Bronze actually!
Looking it up in the book is cheating. Edited by Battenburg Bob on Sunday 5th April 17:54

I noticed yesterday it was the start of the "silly season", where you start to mix with lots of people who don't generally use motorways.
For the first time in ages I had a car come up behind me quickly (despite me doing normal motorway speeds) flashing his lights to get me out of the way it was a old T redg primera, then a focus that must have been doing around a ton (wide wheels, stick on bits etc)
Do they make life more interesting or annoying for you ?
Somewhat more mundane ...
Black Vectra in Derby.
It had pulled an unlikely looking target and hed decided to stop almost opposite a junction on the London road amongst all the current roadwork activity. Had it not been for the flashing lights I would have assumed, on approach, that it was yet another plonker stopping anywhere at all to take a mobile phone call as soon as the phone rings. See them everywhere at the moment. One today was parked up just over the crown of a railway bridge which has double white lines along the centre of the road. Must have been a really important call I guess.
