And the one in Stroud.
Cheltenham and Glos are still there though.

Also Tewkesbury has become a traffic filled, roadwork infested waking nightmare in recent years.

Whereas Gloucester is just a slowly dying nightmare now.....
Orrible place to live these days. I note that no-one suggested moving to Gloucester. I wonder why?

Only issue I can see with Tewkesbury is the bit we lived in was under a lot of water a few years back during the floods. Burger star is/was brilliant and the Indian, mega portions

Burger star is/was brilliant and the Indian, mega portions It doesn't all flood I was pleased to see that my big site at Bredon Road didn't flood when most of the town did. I promised the Chief Exec that it wouldn't and I was proven correct. The sales girls were stuck in the show house for a couple of days though. Research is the key

I'm house hunting at the moment and Hucclecote, Brockworth, AbbeyMeadDale etc are all on the list. But then I've no interest in shopping or drinking so the grim city centre is of little relevance.

Are there any parts of Tewkesbury and the surrounding area that should be avoided?

Floodplain to be avoided
Go to environment agency website and enter postcode GL20 in the "Are You at Risk of Flooding" search box

Have you thought about commuting?
I live in Bradley Stoke and have been commuting to Staverton, just on the edge of Cheltenham since jan and its really not that bad.
45-60 minute drive depending on how fast you drive. I've been following lorrys and getting over 60mpg so it's costing me less than £50/week in fuel.
Compared with moving I think the cost is reasonable and I don't lose the attractions of the big city.

I don't see the advantage of commuting further than from Tewkesbury/Ashchurch - rent is about the same further out yet ill have a longer day and will need to pay to sit in traffic all morning and evening.

I know I used to. I honestly can't see the point in commuting that commute, Sadly Broke is no better than any of the new developments around Glos, Bishops Cleeve is the wrong sider of Chelt for that M5 run as the OP would get caught in traffic on the A40 and Bristol is ok but not wortj that commute IMO

I commute from BC to J14 of the M5 most days, and it's the main reason I want to move further south. In the van or the Jaguar, it costs about £100 a week, and takes 45 minutes each way.
I used to live in Wotton under Edge, and I'd love to go back there.

i commute because its not worth moving to save all of about £100/month.
i lived away from bristol for a year and it ruined my social life as i only saw friends maybe twice in 12 months?
maybe its just me but i'm happier with the commute rather than the idea of moving.
not been stuck is any traffic as long as i've worked here (since jan) and i'm rarely home later than 6pm (finish at 5).
