quick bump.

Has anyone been here recently? If its reasonably priced, I'd like to get my E46 alloys refurbished. If its still as good as it was at the beginning of this thread, it looks like a no brainer smile

not the cheapest place around but still recommended as the best by anyone who cares about their cars around here. Just a tip, if you can take them the wheels without car and tyres attached it will save you about £90 a set

Had my Saleen wheels done back in July, they did an excellent job, colour matched to the original (glitter finish) and were cheaper than the Wheel Specialist.

They did a pair of wheels for me earlier this year. Excellent results and for me at least, worth travelling from Bristol to have them done.

I had a mixed experience with them earlier this year. They did a standard factory finish overhaul on my Cayman wheels so nothing special. The finish is mostly ok but not quite as good as factory brand new. The paint is thick in places (making the rim width/offset markings on the outside face indistinct), there is some grit/imperfections in the finish on the inside surface of one wheel and a small paint bubble around one of the valves. The balance was also out. Many people might say I'm being picky about the paint finish but I am very picky and I took the wheels there based on their reputation as the best around so I expected - maybe unreasonably - a 10/10 result.

Having said all that, I didn't go back to complain and give them the chance to sort it out. I would expect they would take a complaint seriously as they were good to deal with and looked like a very professional setup. They were also very accommodating in fitting new TPMS sensors and tyres that I supplied.

Had two wheels refurbished here earlier this year.Wheels were Boxster spyder in black with a silver painted rim (factory finish). I chose them based on the feeback on Pistonheads but when I got my wheels back the finish was terrible. Instead of the wheels being gloss black they were more of a greeny grey colour which stood out in sunlight, there was also various imperfections in the paint and a line scratched into the inside of the wheel which look like it had been done when they refitted the tyres. There was also a lot of overspray on the inside face where it hadn't been masked off properly.

When the wheels were taken back even the receptionists could tell it was a bad job and said that they had done a similar set earlier on in the week which were much better. They re did all of their work free of charge (they warrantied all of their work which is very handy!) and although there are still a few minor imperfections in the paint finish, the job the second time has been conducted to a much higher standard!

Therefore don't expect a factory finish and do fully check the finish before you collect the wheels as this created an extra two trips to Swindon from Bristol.

I do need to have a set of split rim GT3 wheels refurbished soon if anyone has any other recommendations?

I can vouch for them too. They did and excellent job on my E39 wheels a few years ago and I had the wheels on the F01 done just after I got the car, as one of them had a gouge out of one of the spokes and they all had kerb marks. They look like new now smile

They did a superb job 3 years ago with my entire set, unfortunately 6 months ago I scuffed a wheel, returned to them based on past performance and the job was poor. Orange peel, cracking on the inside and other areas where paint was applied too thickly.

In their defence they took the wheel back and refurbed it to a better standard, but it's still not quite as good as my first visit.

I think they've gone from great to passable

I had my wheels done by them and was initially satisfied. One of the wheels then had a very small nick in the powdercoat whilst a new tyre was being fitted and over the next few weeks, it started to peel off right around the entire circumference of the wheel, in "sheets". I'll certainly be getting the wheels painted next time around.

Quick thread revival.

Are the people who had mixed results dealing with Platinum Alloy Wheel Solutions who I believe took over the Swindon franchise?

I'm looking for a factory standard finish in the Bristol area.

It is Platinum now but they didnt take over as such.
They were a Lepsons franchise but Lepsons wanted to change the terms to get more money out of them so they abandoned the franchise and re named so its still the same people, place and workmanship.
Not had mine done by them yet but all my friends use them and have had no complaints.

Mine were done just over a year ago and still look very good. What's even better is that I've managed to avoid kerbing them! smile

Based on some of the feedback from 2014, I took my wheels to my alloys in Bristol. They did 2 sets for me and both turned out really well.

My Alloys lost the capitalisation in my message. Pints has the correct link.
