Hi All,

We are looking to move home from Gloucestershire due to work, and have found a potential property about half a mile from Corsham Town Centre.

Unfortunately the viewing was later in the day after we'd done several others in neighbouring towns, so we didn't get chance to look round. It looked very nice, but I'm after an honest view from PHers.

Thoughts on a postcard, positives and negatives. Would be good to know if there are any 'MUST AVOID' locations to live. Looked like there was a fair amount of stereotypical military style housing around - which doesn't bother us one bit - but we didn't see any areas where we thought -erk !!! can't live here !

Corsham expanded rapidly during and after WW2. There are no ex-MOD houses there, but some of the ex-Council housing estates look a bit like they are (you can blame a local architect for that in the 50s and 60s smile )

Don't go to live in Potley if you can avoid it, and parts of Rudloe are better avoided, but we're not really talking riots in the streets in either (well, not very often in Potley anyway...)

PM me with more details of where this place is.

By the way, if you like real ale you could do a lot worse that the Two Pigs wink

Lived here all my life (38) years. Pm if you like.

Agree with the above comments. There is a new ish development called Catherine park. It's ok but quickly looking tired and there are cars lining the streets as parking is limited. The centre is ok, a couple of good eating places and corsham court is a scenic walk. Depends what your after but it's a lovely safe place to live with amenities close to hand without being to close

Safe is good.

Its for myself, my wife, and my newborn boy and our dog. I'll be working just outside Swindon, and as my wife doesn't drive, having things easily accessible is important. The central supermarket looks big enough to do most weeks shopping, and then there appears to be a local Sainsburys 5 ish mins by car, or a Waitrose & Asda in Melksham 10-15 mins down the road by car.

Would be good to know if you know much about local parks and their locations (any with a stream running through for the dog would be ace).

I'll PM you the location smile

Forgot to pm Lacock is just down the road and that's lovely on a sunny afternoon. The pubs and local old fashioned shops are great and there's a lot of dog walks about.

Great place to live, I have been here for the last 7.5 years now, and don't regret it. We live in one of the little villages a couple of miles on the outskirts of Corsham, but I own a garage in Corsham smile

Great schools there for you little one too

I'm another Corsham boy born and bred (BFGTerrano and I went to school together) my Mum and many other friends still live there.
As noted, there are a few places where I wouldn't chose to live personally, but aside from those Corsham is a lovely little town with a couple of decent schools, a shopping centre with many 'local' stores rather than chains and some wonderful scenery on the doorstep.

Whereabouts are you specifically looking?

I live here too, it's great and was the right choice. previously i'd been living in Bath and hated the way everyone is on top of each other, the tourists and the traffic/parking issues so moved to Corsham. It's perfect, lots of nice walks, no trouble, easy access to the motorway and Bristol/Swindon/Bath. It's on all the major bus routes etc as well.

Some good pubs, the Quarrymans arms is great, you can take the dog into all the pubs barr the Two Pigs.
Great place to live, id not change it for the world!

The main reason I discounted Corsham was the lack of a railway station. Other than that it was high up my list of possible locations, so if you don't need easy access to the train it should be good.

It's a small world, I used to manage that place back when I left university for the same people who own it now..
A great little bolt-hole.
