I know of a 3 bed detached house in Downend coming available late July, near to the ring road, cycle track to UWE.

I moved to Bristol in 1999 and stayed in the Fishponds/Kingswood area for a decade until moving out to Oldland Common five years ago.

Love it here now and can't see myself moving at all. It's a decent little village with good links to the M4 (junction 18 is about 15 minutes away) and on a good day, I can get into town via the short cuts in twenty five minutes by car. Keynsham station isn't too far away which goes direct to Temple Meads, Bath etc and you are close enough to the countryside to be able to appreciate it.

The bus for Bristol City Centre stops and collects from outside my house, the primary schools aren't too bad although the local comp has just gone into special measures and apart from the odd bit of anti-social stuff, it's a nice place to live. I've got a brilliant landlord who rents me a 3 bed terrace house for £700 per month (no garage, no parking sadly).

Could do worse than live round here.

Another one to consider, thanks.

The issue appears to be lack of suitable rental stock, rather than price. Seem a few interesting places but they will obviously be gone by the time we are looking to move. Only really have a small window of a few weeks, so may not get exactly what we are looking for (although know doubt the perfect place will come onto the market a week after we move).

Pretty comfortable with central Bristol and what it has to offer, as a plan B. Still looking for somewhere near a station but reckon down towards Bath is the only line, maybe as far as Bradford. Even if I accept that we have to get a car to allow us much more options, I've still only seen a handful of prospective properties listed in the last 7 days.

I'm sure that something will turn up, it always does. I think that we'll go down for a long weekend next week and case the area properly.

I think with the rental market, most of the good stuff doesn't even have time to hit rightmove. Visit some agents and get your face known.

If you visit an Andrews branch if you register in 1, set your criteria up they will then email you all new property stock that you want (by bedrooms, garage required, location, cost etc..)

I tend to get an email (although I'm buying) every couple of days? Renting I imagine would be daily.

That's the plan. Visit all the places that I've researched so far thanks to everyone's input. Narrow down the areas and then visit the local agencies and give them our criteria. Then sit back and wait. I'll check the private lets too, if anyone can recommend a good site other than Gumtree?

Trade-it and local paper might be a good idea.

Gumtree.com is another good place to search; it has local groups for Bristol and Bath so search on both. That's how I found the house I'm in now. thumbup

Thanks for everyone's help on this thread. We went to look at some places on Thursday/Friday/Saturday. Ended up making an offer on the first one we saw in a place called Lasborough (I say place, it's basically a few houses on a private estate). Off the A46 near Westonbirt. So I definitely need to buy a car (probably 2), find a job, arrange removals and more things than I care to think about right now...

Will be a big change from where we are now but quite excited once all the other pfaff is taken care. Beautiful part of the world having driven around much of the area. Feel that I need an old Merc to waft around in hehe

Nice part of the world, we're just down the road, but like visiting Tetbury, Cirencester etc which are just up the road from you now.
