Evening chaps

I'm a regular visitor to South Devon - in particular the South Hams, and I know Dartmoor very well. But, shame on me, never been to the North Coast of Devon or indeed Exmoor. I'm going on a 5 night break with the wife in October to the South Hams, but would like to spend a day and a night in North Devon. What are must see towns/villages and where is good to stay (I'd like somewhere really nice as it's an anniversary trip). Your advice and wisdom will be very much appreciated

TIA

Cheers!

Tintagel is a nice place, a bit of history there. Boscastle just up the road famous for its floods a couple of years ago. Excellent pastie shop in Tintagel. We stayed in the King Authurs Arms, couldn't fault it. HTH

Personally, I have a soft spot for Lynmouth. Ive been there 6 times already this year! Quiet and picturesque. The roads around the area are amazing to drive, in particular the A39. I enjoyed a 300 mile road trip in my kit car the other weekend, just to have fun on the road between Porlock and Lynmouth through the Exmoor Park - just stunning.
Try Tors Hotel, The Rock House, or The Bath Hotel

As above . Try the Lynton Cottage Hotel for a special stay.

Most, if not all of the N.Devon coast is worth seeing, have stayed at Exmoor House Hotel in Simonsbath and can recommend that, also a nice pub there. The highest point on Exmoor, Dunkery Beacon, is close by and offers stunning views on a clear day.

Ilfracombe with its Damien Hurst sculpture 'Verity', Woolacombe, Lynton and Lynmouth with the cliff railway and Valley of the Rocks as mentioned etc etc.

There is a shopping village for the OH too, never been but heard it's not the best.

Totaly Agree with this, Took the Z4 forum through there last weekend. There are also a couple of cracking Toll roads up Porlock Hill. Pletty of places to eat. We found a simple open air cafe, at the top of the Vinicular railway, in Lynton. Lynmouth was packed and no room to park, as the sun was out on Sunday.

We also did Dartmoor To Bude on Saturday another great drive. Recommend Lifton Farm shop, as a lunch stop, if your in the Launceston area.

All fantastic roads and very little traffic up on Exmoor. A little moor on Dartmoor but still not much.
