Star and Dove in Totterdowm www.staranddove.co.uk
Greens Dining Room in Redland www.greensbristol.co.uk
or the Raj on King Street for an Indian (best vindaloo in Bristol)

I've lived here for 15+ years and having eaten out a lot, cant really say any of the other places mentioned are worthy of the glowing reviews
Having lived in Totterdown for best part of 6 years, I can also highly recommend the Star & Dove, especially the Sunday lunch, it was my local until recently and always has a good selection of beers on tap, not to mention the "famous" Scotch eggs and sausage rolls which are just delicious!

Recently returned to Cau on a Sunday lunchtime, another fantastic meal and very family friendly (preloaded iPods for kids). Also, Rockfish was very good, slow service on a Saturday night but the quality and freshness of the fish was excellent, pricey though...

Avoid Hall & Woodhouse in Portishead though (for food at least), their burger offering was abysmal, possibly the worst I've had in a very long time, they claimed it was homemade but my wife soon put them straight (and her burger got 7th place at Grillstock this year).

On the burger theme, if you have a family, The Eastfield Inn in Henleaze is very good, lots for the kids to do and their burgers are great.

Cheers for now...
