Hopefully you noted my smiley face. The thing is that not only is the John Lewis store NOT in the city of Bristol, it's not even in the county of Bristol !
I meant the county rather than city, as Bristol is both a city and a county.
So, we can all go to Cribbs Causeway where JL is located and still stay out of Bristol

I read somewhere recently that this 20mph speed limit is being rolled-out to several other cities - this is being adopted because the local city council are now being made responsible for health and safety of its drivers. This has been lazily interpreted by councils as 'lets dob everyone into 20 mph limits'...
For my part - and while I 100% agree with 20mph limits outside schools etc, this has lead to drivers having to constantly look down and check their speedos, rather than concentrating on what's happening around them...
Anyone know when Ferguson's term is due to expire...?? As someone else mentioned earlier, i'd be happy to vote for ANYONE who promises to repeal this stupid policy...Oh, and we DO need someone who doesnt look like a peado turning out when important visitors roll in to town!

Isn't there a contradiction here? You want 20mph limits outside schools but presumably you then expect motorists to be watching out for their speedo rather than for straying kids. But in any case, the argument seems as shallow to me as: "I agree with speed cameras outside schools." Nobody except for an absolute nutcase would not be reducing their speed and driving exceptionally carefully outside schools at taking-in and chucking-out time, and an absolute nutcase would be taking no notice of the speed limit anyway. And those limits and cameras will still be there at 2.30 in the morning and at weekends when there are no kids about, so plenty of opportunities for FPNs being issued at those times, when the true reason for the limit or the camera being put there isn't there anyway/
But more on-topic, I went straight through the centre of Bristol today on buses - Staple Hill to Rupert Street and then another bus to Avonmouth. I found it difficult to spot any section of road that I used today between Fishponds and Westbury where you could sustain more than 20mph for any reasonable distance anyway.

That's part of the idiocy though. I agree, it's often difficult to achieve 20 when it's busy and when most accidents happen. Restricting speed 24/7 when it's not necessary i.e. overnight and the wee small hours is ridiculous. But in any case, the argument seems as shallow to me as: "I agree with speed cameras outside schools." What time was this? it's not always so busy that you struggle to get over 20MPH all day every day.
Peak times is a bh, Why I have a Motorcycle if I needed to use it in peak times for whatever reason.
Re the petition I signed this already. Not that anyone will take any notice
I presume the question was aimed at me and my bus ride It happened late morning/ lunchtime. Incidentally, the last time I caught a bus from Staple Hill to central Bristol they still had conductors on them, so that was rather a long time ago! Peak times is a bh, Why I have a Motorcycle if I needed to use it in peak times for whatever reason.

Staple Hill depart 1125 or so. Rupert Street 1210, on to Avonmouth arriving about 1250
Fishponds Road was chaos because there were two sets of roadworks between Lodge Causeway and Royate Hill, so that didn't help. The number of traffic lights on that section of road has increased umpteen-fold since I lived in Staple Hill as a kid and did the trip frequently so that slows you down considerably (IIRC in those days all the way from Staple Hill bus depot to Old Market the only sets of lights were: Portcullis Staple Hill, Fishponds Cross Hands, Lodge Causeway, Royate Hill, Eastville junction and Old Market Street/ West Street).
The Centre has been a joke since they "improved" it some years ago. No chance to get a move on there. There may have been a chance to exceed 20 going up Park Street but I was in a bus , and from there to the top of Blackboy hill was full of stop-start traffic. Once past The Downs things got quieter but I don't think that the 20 limits apply that far out anyway.
