Night out in Plymouth

You should head North on Armada Way, under North Cross roundabout, down towards pennycomequick, hang a right, and get on a train to Exeter. And I've lived in Plymouth 12 years.
In all seriousness, anywhere not studenty is quite likely to be rough, especially if you want a late night. And a group of 20 or so lads/men will definately not get in at least half the places unless you go in much smaller groups.
Slightly out of town and upmarket is Royal William Yard , mainly franchise and chain eateries, but make sure you get a taxi back. Also there are a couple of casinos in the West end of the centre.
Do you want food, beer, late licence, or gentlemens' entertainment?
Food is going to be handled before we come out. Gentlemen's is covered the night before. This is purely beer and late (probably). In all seriousness, anywhere not studenty is quite likely to be rough, especially if you want a late night. We're staying in Salcombe so guessed Plymouth would be good for a big night out. Not so sure now...

Unless you have a minibus booked you will find it difficult if nigh-on impossible to get cabs back to Salcombe. The nearest nightlife to Salcombe is Coast in Kingsbridge. It's a bit crap but is friendly & probably OK for a group if you call them up before. We're staying in Salcombe so guessed Plymouth would be good for a big night out. Not so sure now...

I was planning on pre-booking. Thanks for the tip on Coast.Issi said:
Can anybody local confirm if there ever was a pub called 'Bunch of grapes/olives' or something like that on North Road West.
I was positive that I spent a couple of hours in there while waiting for a friend, but no one has ever heard of it.
My colleague, who knows all Plymouth pubs from the last 50 years intimately, says it was on the South side of the road, near the Patna hotel.I was positive that I spent a couple of hours in there while waiting for a friend, but no one has ever heard of it.
He thinks it is now the Somerset Arms
