The girlfriend 's daughter passed her test last week .And has decided she wants corsa as this is the car she learnt to drive in

So wot are the common faults I need to look out for before she hands over cash .We are going to look at some around Bristol today at 10.30

They have a nasty habit of burning oil, make sure it has been regularly serviced, I am not sure how easy it would be to spot this problem on a visual check, I guess oil level would be a good place to start.
We stripped a failed engine back along and it appeared the piston rings had been incorrectly fitted, but not sure if that one was an exception. I cam think of a handful we have seen suffering this problem, it can be sustainable providing level is regularly checked and it hasn't got to the point of emitting oil smoke from the exhaust. The main danger seems to be running out of oil and then the consequential damage.
Apart from that, interior quality is as to be expected, watch out for buckled alloys if it has the low profile tyres, the electric power steering can be troublesome, so make sure it behaves normally and there are none of the warning lights are illuminated or covered up/disconnected. Recent favourites are airbag disconnected/blacked out as it's an mot failure now, and EML lamps not working at all.
Good luck

Electric power steering never drove a car with this so not sure wot to expect

I told her to look round for many small engine car's But she wont have its a corsa she wants and thats final in her words

The insurance is the shocking part £1.500 fc

I did tell her buy something cheap as 9out of 10 times your likely to crash in the first six months and its cheaper to fix a banger than a expensive car .or is it only me that thinks this way

9th car on the list black corsa this is the car she chose
We looked at a few today from corsa's to fiestas but this was the last car and she loved it

However there are a few things they need to fix first
Aircon not working since 2013 according to vauxhall paperwork due to pipe broken
Blowers not working
Header tank looks very dirty inside can remove cap but the insert that should be on the cap is stuck in the expansion bottle neck
Interior mirror loose
Seat seems to wobble about
Oil around the top of the engine where the air duct from filter box to were in connects to engine

Now my main concern was the the mayo on the filler cap and in the neck
All the above will be getting fixed and ive also told him I want a sniff test done on the hg to make sure the hg hasn't failed
We have only paid a small deposit so if nothing has been done then ill walk away

However if the above has been fixed then I shall buy it
But I would still like a 2nd opinion on the hg they may get it checked out but as I won't be there to see this I'm worried they may over look this

So do we have any mechanics local to Dursley that wouldn't mind coming with me Saturday morning to check this car out or I can bring the car to give it a once over

My g/f has a 2006 1.4 corsa with 130k on the clock it used to drink oil but it appears to have calmed down since she switched to a grade thicker. Other than that it has been pretty bulletproof she's had it since new and other than a wiper motor and a recall on the ABS system its basically never broken down.

I know it's off tangent, but I know the Grande Punto shares the same platform as this shape Corsa and tends to come with quite a bit more kit as standard.

To quote their sales blurb ..
"CREDIT TO ITS FORMER KEEPER THIS CAR HAS BEEN HIGHLY MAINTAINED REGARDLESS OF COST, VERY CLEAN EXAMPLE THROUGHOUT!"

From what you've posted, that's clearly not true, and as such I wouldn't trust the dealer as far as I could throw him.

Must be better out there.

This for example, similar price, lower miles, comes with 6 mths warranty

The car has 1 owner and full service from vauxhall
I will show her this advert you posted up and see wot she thinks

We looked and a few cars 1 was a 1.2 corsa with 56k on the clock .But the owner said it has a mot but cNt find the slip but he said if you want it ill get a mot on Monday and you can pick it up Tuesday
He was confident it would pass but it was only stopping on50% of the front disc's and they had a massive lip so needed changing so we walked away knowing he was going to get a bent mot put on it .

We then found some lovely 06/07 plate festers but she wanted a corsa . Plus the festers didn't come with a aux input for her I phone .bloody women so fussy

For a first car I would of got her a cheap banger for the first year of driving as its cheaper to fix and repair a banger than a corsa

If Vauxhall found the a/c pipe was broken why were they not told to fix it? Same for the blowers. The expansion tank shouldn't be dirty inside its only water and antifreeze (antifreeze can cause staining) the insert in the cap is part of the cap, it's a valve that lets pressure release if it builds up. The seat im going to get shot for this! It's a woman's car most likely owned by some bint who moves the seat everytime she got in or out. Same for the mirror moved every day to do her make-up. Mayo in the oil filler cap, sorry that's a no-no if it had low miles and been sat around maybe but with what you are saying about the water bottle alarm bells are ringing.

im guessing since 2013/2014 it didnt move much and i think he/she never wanted to fix the broken parts so im guessing it went to auction and thats why this garage has it and dont no how long thay have had it. I would of Preferred if she went for the other car .maybe i can put her off tomorrow even though she has been waiting all week for this car

a good long test drive up and down the a38 tomorrow will hopefully pick up some faults

she is in for such a shock as she thinks all you do is put fuel in and away you go .she has no ideal of actual running cost
if the car goes wrong you need money to fix it
you need new tyres 17" arnt cheap
once a year you need a mot sometimes car fail and you need cash to fix it
and you need to find money for road tax and insurance every year

if she drive to collage she has to pay £60 per year for a permit

dursley to hartpury
40 mile road trip 45 mins each way maybe more depending on traffic

she earns £80 a week and she smokes i did tell her ages ago you dont earn enough to be able to run a car
