Drifting in Cheddar Gorge

Stickyfinger - Silliest quote I have seen on here in a while
"Unless on a track and the owner of said track does not mind his tarmac ripped to shreds"
Yes because rubber evidently rips up tarmac. Must be why race circuit get resurfaced so often
Roads/tracks etc. need re-surfacing every once in a while right? Do you think drifting is going to increase the length of the life of those surfaces or decrease it?"Unless on a track and the owner of said track does not mind his tarmac ripped to shreds"

Got the dosh ?
Really, your serious about that ?....you want to buy "green belt" land, tarmac it and use it for motor sport, get the Police and Councils on-board to the extent they will give the necessary land use permissions and planning consents, obtain insurance ?
and your financial base is a collection of young modified car owners.
I wish you the best of luck mate

Well no not really. People have been looking into industrial land that's not currently in use and is already tarmacked or concreted. and if you do your research there are companies that have already done this. Driftland for example. but they are already selling off green belt land for housing so why shouldn't they do it to lay a bit of tarmac down. you would be surprised how much money young car enthusiasts have, but no that's not the case. Anyone who has any sense should see this as a positive that young people are actually looking for somewhere safe to use their cars rather than on public roads. I do see it as positive, very much so....anything to help those who spoil Cheddar for everybody to move on from there and stop being total idiots on public roads and being filmed doing it !
I know a couple of people who are locals and there are very strong moves supported by the police and council to prevent all "Car Meetings" in the gorge. The latest film from the Tv was used in a recent meeting as evidence of the need for "Strong controls and/or restrictions"
I am sure none of your group were on the television the other night however. So as said, I wish you good luck in your endeavour

Just watched this on iPlayer.
I'm sure I thought the world was unfair when I was their age too but. . .
I don't understand why they're complaining about having no where to go and play. The reason most proper circuits shy away from drift days is because they damage the surface and especially the run off areas considerably more than a normal track day. Furthermore, there are noise limits which, whilst easily achievable, their cars would fail. It's not down to the public, Police or other car enthusiasts to subsidise their hobby.
Any track day enthusiast accepts that they will manage maybe one a month and that they will have to travel, pay for the privilege, prepare their car to a standard accepted by the organiser (including noise!) and be part of a controlled environment. Why should drifters be any different?

This. I have asked so many times and never had a proper answer. The video that first triggered it in me was henry catchpole (I think) driving some sort of caterham esque kit car and he was on the wrong side of the road on blind corners. Everyone seemed to think it was ok as 'magazines usually have spotters' but if any of us where to be seen driving like that on the public road we would be seen as irresponsible scum!
FFS!Agreed. I have been watching a load of Harris and EVO videos the past few weeks and they obviously drive over the speed limits on public roads, drifting, burnouts etc. It makes for excellent videos but no more legal than the lads drifting cheddar in the dead of night as apposed to broad day light like these lot
