Should I stop or not.....

Pootling along the A370 Long Ashton bypass last night in me Sprinter box van on the way to Taunton when I notice a car stopped in the layby by the dual carriageway section of the road with its hazards flashing. Behind the car, a man was lying spark out on his back with his head partly on the road not moving.
Couldn't believe my eyes so did a U-turn and headed back t'other way and did another U-turn. By this time, a man and a woman had stopped and had rung 999. His nearside tyre was shredded and according to the paramedic, looked like he'd got the jack out of the boot to change the tyre and suffered a heart / angina attack.
Good to see that three people were public-spirited enough to stop but bearing in mind it was 7.30pm, little street light and Barrow Gurney is within spitting distance, I must admit to having second thoughts in case it was a set-up.
Anyone else encountered similar??

We stopped recently as a child had been knocked down. There was a car with hazards protecting the lane and a few people stood about. SWMBO is a GP so we screeched to a halt and backed up to them, she leapt out and ran over before she realised it was a dog. It was a bit embarassing really as this thing looked like it was gasping its last and we were all prepared to help but couldn't
I stopped one wet evening on the M4 about a year or so ago, a BMW had gone into the central reservation with some force. The occupants [a man and lady] were standing on the hard shoulder on 'my' side.
After I checked they were ok, I suggested the lady might like to sit in my car (it was raining, and she looked rather shaken) until the emergency / recovery services turned up, while I chatted to the bloke.
When they did, the paramedic told me that sitting the victims of a crash in yer car might not be the smartest thing to do...as if there's the slightest suspicion of a neck injury, they won't risk possible further injury...they'll just cut the roof off your car!

I always thought that was an urban legend my other half told me!!! He says he heard it was a Micra that this genuinely happened to.

Just curious here really - is there the implication that you are likely to be set up in close proximity to Barrow Gurney? Is it dodgy? I'd always thought it a sleepy sort of place

The village is sleepy but everyone from Bristol knows Barrow Gurney for its, shall we say, disturbed & unstable hospital patients...
I think it's closed down now.
