There are a few issues.
As it`s so busy I double parked, left my car window open and obviously unlocked, so that if the car needed to be moved it could. I have been blocked in previously and had to wait about an hour before I could leave, no sign of the owner, no mobile number, little consideration.
This Sunday I took WPU264, sit up and beg Anglia, bit dog eared so happy for it to be moved a bit, so I could have a look around the Square. I have had the cloth roof poked with an umbrella stay before, trafficators lifted etc.
I tend to keep an eye on the car from nearby, sit in by invitation.
Was it you that kindly moved to let me out in the black Porsche? If so then then thanks again.

I know its not in the spirit of the original organisers plans

But has anyone considered a different location ?
With parking on curbs, people blocked in, damage to paintwork, uncontrolled children - This sounds to me like its expanded to a volume that is too much for this city centre location.
I know its a lovely venue, and close to the cafe's etc and even nice for a walk around the waterfront, but if it was held in a venue car park, such as a football ground all these issues would be resolved and the public wouldnt be caught up in an event when they may just want to walk their dog. How happy can all the homeowners be around the square when they have visitors who cant park.

I dont know Bristol that well & havn't been to this lovely event for a while, But I just thought I'd ask the question

Much appreciated. If you had managed to catch me I'd have been happy to oblige, at least by asking I would then know you are sensible enough to be taken seriously. I'm even happy for people to sit in it etc but not unless I am there to help them in and out and to talk through stuff etc. I have even been known to take people for rides evilbiglaugh

I had at least TWO pairs of eyes on it at all times after last time. Shame it has to be like that though really.
I would have asked but don't know what you look like! Next time wear a pink carnation.
I was the one with the pair of binoculars and the AK47 watching my car! ha ha!

I wandered along to Queens Square yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised how many people turned up considering the weather/time of year etc.

Good mix of cars but one thing that really stood out was the number of parking attendants in action.

I counted 4 at one stage and they were issuing tickets liberally it would appear.
Back in the summer they didn't appear too bothered at the large turnout and number of "imaginative" parking solutions but yesterday they were all over it!

Has there been a formal complaint or has someone tipped of that pcensoredk who wears the Red Trousers?

Anybody else notice it?

Parking tickets could signal the end of this event in queens square. I hope not, but this combined with the buggy pushing, paint scratching public means I would not be able to leave my car unattended to go for a wander round.

I was there in November and didn't see any parking enforcement. I hope this isn't going to become a regular thing.

I had the pleasure of donating £35 to the council Christmas party, ive been going to this free event for about 10 years, usually parked on double yellows all morning so to only have one ticket in all that time i'm quids in. Its what you make it, if people cant park they will drive round & round, see how that impresses the locals who complain about noise and parking tongue out

Most of us can usually park in spaces, so it`s just a case of paying for an hour or so`s parking.
We`ve been lucky not to pay before.... I did initially until I found out few bothered.
It will be those who can`t find a space that will need to sit in their cars and circle the square (strange expression) but common sense would be that it`s safer to be static even if double parked.... but what`s common sense got to do with paying to park in Bristol, on a Sunday, away from the main shopping centre?

I have always thought that up on the downs (strange expression, almost as bad as circling the square) would be the best location. How about the big green bit across the road from the sea walls?

I think the cost of the fine for parking on any of the green bits of the Downs will be more expensive than a Queen Square ticket.

The restrictions on the Downs have changed recently..... maybe only in the week, working hours.

Seriously, parking on the Downs would be a bad idea. The grass is strictly verboten and the council anti-fun crews do patrol regularly. So, you're just parking in a line with cars whistling past. Aaahm oot

I haven't been for a while so I don't really know what it has been like recently, but part of the appeal is that it is in a pleasant leafy Georgian square and not an industrial estate car park full of puddles and weeds or a muddy field. Makes for good photos and I'm sure some members of the public who have stumbled across it have enjoyed it. I don't really know how many residents it annoys as most of square is IFAs, Solicitors and language schools. I am sure if they are happy to put up with harbour festival and the occasional giant spider with flame throwers they can cope with a few cars with noisy exhausts (and quite a few more without) turning up.

I attended the December meet and as far as I could see they were only booking the vehicles that were parked on the pavement. We were parked in the bays from 8.00 to 11.00 without getting a ticket.

Any body know if there is a meet tomorrow (14th Feb)?
Just been in touch with a friend who recons there's an event (concert / festival thing)on tomorrow but I couldn't find anything.
Forecast looks cold but largely dry.

This sort of thing is why I don't even drive thru Bristol, let alone ever park. Lots of morons around who think if you can afford a nice car, they should make you pay to repair it as they are too scummy to afford one themselves, and cyclists and pedestrians who assume car drivers deserve to suffer vandalism because we supposedly damage the planet

Very busy. Some lovely cars.

2nd car I have taken there, 2nd car that has got scratched by some wker. Bad this time too.

What the fk is the matter with people? banghead Do they think they are toys to be climbed on by their kids? Or that it is ok to rub your ring covered hands all over them? My car picked up no less than EIGHT scratches today, some to the metal deep.

It's gonna cost a packet to put right. The cars are there to be LOOKED at DO NOT TOUCH them, they are not yours and it is criminal damage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (that is aimed at the morons that did it if they are reading this).

Keep your bloody hands, rings, kids, belt buckles, handbags, keys etc off the damned cars you fking idiots!!!! furiousragepunch

Was in at 8am hoping for a quiet start to the day. Good turn-out: the Square was full and looked like it had been for a while. I left well before 9am as it was getting very, very busy.

No camera with me, did anyone take any pictures?

Best wishes, Colin
