Some more info wink The garage was owned for many years by the Lillywhite family until the early 1960s.

"This unique 1930s Grade II Listed building gradually ran into disrepair when Mr Lillywhite passed away and it has stood empty until it was acquired by Globe Estates. Reginald Lillywhite was a real character who often cycled around the village in his plus fours and monocle.
The Old Guy that used to be around the Roundstone PYO/Garden Centre on his bike wearing a 'straw boater' waving to cars?

I remember him from when I was a kid

Nop. Do not think that was mr lillywhite. As much as lillywhite was known as an 'eccentric' it was not really in a nice way. my girlfriends grandfather used to work in the garage for over 20 years (infact was one of last people to work at the garage and he lived in house owned by lillywhite a few doors down from the garage). From the storys i have been told, mr lillywhite and his wife were never really 'social' around the village.

That's literally 30 seconds from my house biggrin

Another cool fact: My best mate is John Coopers Grandson! Got one of the last minis to roll off the production line just sitting in his garage unused, pretty cool...

Hey...
I remember that bloke too, used to stand up at the Warren Roundabout with his bicycle, cane and hat, mincing about and pointing at the traffic, generally making everyone smile... Must have been in the 1980's..

Mad as a box of frogs.

I was involved in clearing the garage in 2008. There were 13 cars,6 steam engines, assorted tractors, road rollers...you name it, it was in there. Absolutely fasinating project as Mr Lillywhite threw nothing away, so there were 60 years of documents as well as every piece of packaging received.
Some pictures from inside the garage in 2008 are attached

They don't appear to be, but it would be good to see them.

The wife used to know him slightly. His name was Horace (can't remember surname). Had a job in an optical factory on Brougham Road and looked completely ordinary until he put on his white gloves and boater. Didn't realise he went as far out as the Roundstone. I think he died in the 90's, certainly a while ago.
