Just planning a route from a few of the posts on here,

Using google maps

A Dorchester
B Piddlehinton
C Cann Common
D Tollard Royal (Via Zig Zag hill naturally...)
E Cranbourne
F Wimborne Minster
G Blandford Forum (then homeward bound)

If your coming from Sherborne way use the A352 to Dorchester, its rather good.

Will be doing it shortly when Im not ill. Achew.

Anyone got any other ideas on where to go? Thinking of going for a bit of a drive tomorrow (9-10ish).

I much prefer the B-road status 'Old Sherborne Road' that runs parallel to the A352.

My mother lives in Weymouth and my father in the most northerly Dorset village (right where Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset all meet) and the route between the two takes around an hour and is pretty amusing if you take the afore-mentioned Old Sherborne Road to Sherborne and then the B3145 upto Wincanton and the A303.

My other recommendations (not mentioned already (I think)) to avoid Grockle Traffic into Weymouth (pre-new road) coming from the east (A31 etc.) would be to turn off at Bere Regis and head over to Wool or alternatively continue on the Puddletown bypass and take the Affpuddle turning and come in through Crossways and Warmwell.

Do you mean the high road (that goes past Charlton Down)?

That's a minor road, but looks like an A-road.

Yep. I suspect the B-road status is because of no other way to access the Dorchester end other than the narrow bridge by the Loders garage (the narrow bit at the lights by The Sun Inn) or through the suburban streets of Charminister, so bigger traffic is pushed towards wider, flatter A-road that already exists.

Just realised as I was posting this it's not Dorset, but I'll post it up anyway!

Not a long road, but when you're next in the forest, this is a nice little road if you get a clear run.

What's the risk of animals on the road? Is it a 40 mph limit, being in the Forest?

Yeah, it's not a road for doing 100mph on, but for most of it it's an open twisty road that's good fun with good visibility to spot animals.

Anyone keen on a Sunday Morning drive around the countryside and finish with breakfast somewhere?

I was thinking of a 6am start to get clear roads.
I'm up for a run out one morning. The route that "Stone cold" posted looks brilliant:

Also, I have a few new GoPro goodies i want to get out and use. I'd love to make a film if people don't mind (no stupid stuff)!

Shall we set a date?

Bit of a bump!

Does anyone have any other decent roads to try? Got a couple of weeks off work at the end of this week, and want to do as much riding as possible.

I just thought I'd add to this route. There's always a risk of animals so beware but the twisties and lack of population in the morning make for a fun drive wink

Only just noticed this thread and now I wish I wasn't working this Saturday! Maybe an early morning Sunday ride is on the cards with a couple of these routes.

Ki3r you wouldn't fancy a ride out would you?

Not seen it mentioned on this thread yet, but the road from Swanage to Corfe via Langton Matravers and Kingston has a few good bits, especially the hill down from Kingston which is a little Zig Zag-esque. Plus great views and the Square and Compass at Worth Matravers if you fancy a stop en-route.

The B3390 from Warmwell to Affpuddle has a couple of good straight bits.

Most of the other roads I used to take the 'long way home' on in my mum's R5 as a 17 year old have been covered though.
