Well i'm finally moving to Brigton.

After farting about for too long trying to sell my house in the depressed frozen North I've rented the damn thing and I'll be coming to the seaside within 2 weeks.

I'm a northern monkey and aprehensive to say the least as i'm not sure which way work will go long term but i'm very excited as well.

Things I'm looking forward to.

The seaside

The pubs and bars

Going to Goodwood

Drives out in the Sussex countryside

Opportunity

Causing trouble with the green party council.

Things I'm not looking forward to:

£10 haircuts

Not paying £2 a pint

The parking gestapo.

Being stared at and pointed at by the locals as soon as I open my gob.

Seriously though I'm looking forward to it.
See you soon.

You'll be lucky to find a £10 haircut! One of my tenants is a hairdresser and Ive seen him charge £160 yikes for cut and colour, ladies obviously (that reminds me, must put his rent up scratchchin )

One across the road charges a tenner Pfft. I pay £4.50 at the moment but i'm told 10 quid is cheap for Brighton so no choice really unless the oh can start using clippers or I start to resemble a yeti.

South of the South Downs, Brighton has its own micro climate, which means
summers are longer and hotter and winter is shorter and milder than
Up Norf.

Expect to pay less in winter fuel bills and to buy fewer warm jumpers.

The Evening Star pub, near the railway station.
Best pub for miles around, in my view.

Brighton is virulently anti-car. Expect to be a pariah if you own one.

Apart from that Brighton is very cosmopolitan.

Stuff that would cause raised eyebrows and a call to the coppers wouldn't even
get noticed there. Expect the wierdos, waifs, strays and dropouts to be
far more prevalent too. Not for nothing does Private Eye have Brighton
as "Skidrow-on-Sea".

Trust me take a walk around Oldham town centre on any a given day to have your eyes truly opened, I saw a guy playing a whistle outside my bank last week and he had back to front knees.

At least Brighton has genuinely ordinary people, Oldham has very few.

Which area are you living in? Very different flavours depending on the neighbourhood you end up at.

It's a nice pub. Anymore in the area? I will be living right near Stanmer Park Tavern and although it's ok it can sometimes attract a few undesirables.

Not really. Head down to vogue gyratory & you're in student bar land. If I were still living there, I'd be spending my beer tokens on Southover street. We used to try to get from the top to the bottom with a pint in each bar. It's good round there because of the choice & the fact that the tourists will never find it.

Back to add, don't know what you're into but assuming it's more than the pub which you can do anywhere, frankly, then Brighton is one of the best playgrounds anywhere.

Within two miles of where you are, you've got windsurfing, sailing, kitesurfing, hang gliding, paragliding, fishing, epic walking, even more epic mountain biking, sailing, kayaking, woodland trails, essentially any kind of pursuit you could wish for.

It's a brilliant place to live in so many ways, of which the most famous - going on the piss is only one.

Tip for the top: next time you are in there, have a look at the real ales.

Pick one with Golden in it's name, or that mentions "Golden Ale" on the pump clip.

Try it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how nice it tastes, and possibly
how little it costs.

The Italian version of Carling / Fosters / Heineken indeed ;->

Stanmer Park isn't the most highly recommended pub!

I get my hair cut near there and it's £9 - it may be a lot more expensive in town.

The Park View is OK, used to be a fairly bad plain pub 20 years ago, has been tarted up in recent years and is very popular, but it's more of a wine bar that does beer than a pub. The menu looks good, but doesn't change (very often?) - the second time I went there to eat this summer I was struggling to spot something I wanted, apart from the thing I'd had the last time.

I've never noticed people looking at me strangely cos of having a northern accent, although having lived down here a long time people in Yorks think I have a southern one!

A different accent won't turn any heads in Brighton. In fact you would have to look and sound something VERY special to turn a head. The place is full of trendies, weirdos and eccentrics. As for haircuts, for a bloke, I imagine anywhere from £7 to £70 should just about cover it. There are a lot of blokes with shaved heads though...
