I drive down the A31 daily and I assume people have noticed the speed camera man standing alone in the middle of the central reservation by now, he parks his van on the side of the road on the eastbound side and points his camera at the westbound side, normally sat just before or after picket piece services, you probably won't notice him unless your on the ball as your looking for a van, just to pre warn anyone going that way, he likes evenings too!

Like it, though a good old fashioned stoning would make him think twice!

Perhaps it's the same guy who has caught me twice on the A31 (I know - I should have learnt). I feel like I already know him.

Seen the vsn there a lot, westbound. Also static Gatso southbound on Spur Road, just past the footbridge at Blackwater, about 1/2 mile into the 50MPH bit. They were there last week at 7:50 in the evening !... Just as it's beginning to get dusk.... Be careful !

Edited to add....

There's more than one unmarked late dark metallic Skoda Octavia estate M27/M3. Rear privacy glass, very discrete. Only tell take is short, 6 inch antenna on the roof where you might expect a shark's fin... But full of Babylons with fixed penalty pads....

Are the cameras wireless then?

Or am I missing something?

They got my dad at Picket post...in my car laugh

The other favourite spot on the A31 is in the middle of the road between the laybies about half way across the Forest, just over the brow if you're heading West.

Reviving an old thread!

Just stormed past this chap on the way to Southampton going eastbound this evening. Being unexpectedly late for something, my mind was elsewhere until I saw his van in the layby with the window open (I think) and I promptly anchored up. I didnt notice if he was stood in the central reservation. Does anyone know if this van operates eastbound or does he only target people westbound when he's standing in the central reservation? 1.5 hours later I drove back westbound and there he was standing in the central reservation.

The road was clear when I was driving eastbound and I was driving slightllllllyy brisk, hence why I'm a little concerned. Oops.

Yes I saw him there last night, stood in the central reservation with a camera on a tripod and his van in the Westbound lay-by, my speed had just been brought down by slower moving cars as I came adjacent to him. I too was travelling in the same directions you - Eastbound, and I am pretty sure (not 100%) that he was pointing his weapon of mass revenue generation at the Westbound traffic. He'd positioned himself right at the bottom of one of the hills there, where its very easy for oncoming traffic to drift over the speed limit as momentum gathers down hill .... be careful chaps!

So maybe he swivels his camera around and goes for both directions! I think last night when I saw him he was pointing it westbound - but I guess that doesn't mean he couldn't swivel it around 5 minutes later and point it the other way! Grrrrr
