I live in parkstone area and I love the nature we have on our doorstep, I often consider it the best place in the world to live. But I am just realising there is one thing I'd love to do... go out for a day trip sometimes or for a few hours and just drive a road that runs alongside the coast.

I doubt we have anything similar to California style...

But are there any nice coastal roads near / not more than 30-60mins from my base here? A scenic drive along the coast on a sunny day would just be the best, but the closest I've found so far is driving along boscombe sea front.

Thanks for any tips.

Always loved the idea of driving those roads in the US, they look stunning! Like you say we don't really have anything. Studland is probably about the best we have to offer, the Jurassic Coast line might be worth exploring, i don't really know that area very well.

Isle of Wight has some good coast roads. Can't remember the name of the best one, but it's by the Wight Mouse pub, Coast road, South west corner of the island I think. Beautiful scenery and amazing roads.

You need to get further in to west Dorset; Burton Bradstock to Abbotsbury is very picturesque, quite busy in the summer though outside of that busy period it's quite a nice road for driving.

If you fancy a walk then park in West Bay and go overthe hills to Golden Cap, fabulous views. Further west beyond Lyme Regis there are some nice roads in Devon but we are getting beyond a "close drive" then.

theres some good ones along the south of the Island. Military road is superb. the best bit is the A3055 from Chale to Freshwater. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Isle+of+Wight/...

Yes I love the road trips in the US, amazing geography there and they just paste these big roads through the middle of it all! I went a few years ago with mates, but planning on taking my girlfriend and kid as soon as work calms down a bit. A must do trip, especially if you love driving.
