Whitchurch is nice, it's in between Andover and Basingstoke.

£14.50 per day to park at Southampton Airport Parkway rofl
Thanks all; some great suggestions and I will get busy with Rightmove!

Hmm, I last parked there in the new multi storey a year or two back, don't remember it being that much. Maybe they hiked up the prices. I can believe the airport charges that much though (as opposed to the rail station)

I had the misfortune to work in Eastleigh some years back, when driving up Southampton road I always used to see people walking towards me from the lakes/ponds just up the road, where they were all parking. No idea if they were parking for free or were paying.

I think Eastleigh have parking controls, so you couldn't dump it in the street outside someones house all day. From what I can see the small roads off of wide lane just to the south appear to be free of restrictions, probably a 20 minute walk?

If you end up anywhere near hedge end there are often cars parked all the way up that road as it only has a small car park.

If someone had half a brain they'd set up a car park in the old Ford factory car park, charge a fiver a day and run a minibus or whatever up to the station, probably do nicely out of that.

The 14.50 is the station. The airport is £22!!

Chandlers Ford is pretty nice, some good houses and within your budget. You can either travel to Parkway or use the service from Chandlers Ford and park your car/walk for free.

If your willing to stretch the train journey slightly. Brockenhurst in the new forest is good. Restaurants, few local shops, country village / town. Walk to train station and good weekend relaxing space.. Easy enough drive to Southampton when needed as well.

In the summer does get busier but if walking to the train station, shouldn't cause a problem.

Check out Grange Park in Hedge End, it has a station that has London trains, 2 minutes from the m27 junction 7! might be worth a look at something around here with that price range you'd find a nice house.
For the budget they would be looking at something in Billington Gardens or Elliott Rise area. Nothing for sale at the moment but an example of what you could get both within walking distance to the station:

Full of taste for sure. I wonder how much more they'd have got without the hideous wallpaper.

Hi,

Before I start, this is just my opinion so no offence.

I work in London and commute in from Eastleigh every day. I've been doing that for four years and prior to that I travelled in from Winchester to London for ten years so I know that stretch of the line very well.

I would say that Winchester to Waterloo is much more preferable. My reasons for saying that are; you can get a fast train, season ticket is a bit cheaper and if you leave for work before 07:00 you will always get a seat (and usually later as well if you time it right). Eastleigh, being one stop further on, not all the trains stop there. Southampton Parkway, Hedge End etc are too far out IMHO to do it every day for years (I know people do but I'd like a life). You'll also need to develop a coping strategy - I watch TV on my Android, but it's very easy to get stressed on those trains - just something to bear in mind. One thing to give you an idea of the difference between Winchester and Eastleigh travel. It's ten minutes quicker for me living on Eastleigh outskirts to drive to Winchester and get a fast train than it is to drive to Eastleigh. I still go to Eastleigh though as it's closer in distance and all round easier.

Chandlers Ford as mentioned is the other side of the M3 from Eastleigh, is a nicer area and consequently carries a premium. It's much cheaper than Winchester though. If I was you I would look at buying in Chandlers Ford and drive to Winchester to get the train. Otterbourne, Allbrook are nice as well - easy drive into Winchester and nicer than Eastleigh. It's difficult to say whether Winchester will gentrify Eastleigh but it looks more like it's going more Southampton. As I live in Eastleigh I hope I'm wrong.

Andrew

More to the point, hopefully Southampton won't go the way of Eastleigh...

Eastleigh is better than it was, but outside the Swan Center, it does seem a little run down, and the shops appear to be mostly £1/99p shops, funeral directors, charity shops and "fatty amals all-night kebab and off-license" style emporiums. The traffic is generally horrendous as there are only 4 busy roads in/out because its hemmed in by the railway and the m3.

Chandlers Ford feels like a world away in comparison, around Hiltingbury you could well be in Surrey, yummy mummies in X5s/Q7s and RR Sports.

If you dont care about secondary school catchment, avoid anything in Thorndens catchment, unless you fancy a) being subjected to trial by combat against the other purchasers by the estate agent b) paying way over the odds.

I'm originally from Petersfield, then I moved to Liss. Nice areas on a main line to Waterloo. Liss is a slow stop but only 10 mins drive from P'field. Or just outside Hampshire, Haslemere?

Have you considered Wickham (lovely countryside and small villages) or Fareham (good town centre and nice area) in Hampshire, Port Solent (marina development, you can get waterfront properties in your price range) just off the A27 or Southsea (central Portsmouth old town) which is a lovely area in central Portsmouth? If you've not been to Portsmouth in the last 10 years or so, you might want to check it out. The old dockyards have been redeveloped, and IMHO it has more heart and soul about it than Southampton (but I admit I'm biased).

I live in Portsmouth, and take the train from Havant station - parking is £7.20 a day, always get a parking space and a seat on the train. On the return train, once you get to Guildford the train empties a lot and seats are available. Havant is 10 minutes drive out of Portsmouth. The train to Waterloo takes about 1.5 hours for the fast train.

Try Hook, not far from Basingstoke, but has its own station. It's a stopping train to Waterloo, but takes just 1 hour and you'll get a seat. If you live in Hook then the station will be walking distance. You could try Hartley Wintney or Odiham nearby if you wanted more of a small market town feel, but house prices will be higher

i often do west end to waterloo, cant remember not getting a seat. Parking is a lot there daily, i try and get dropped off, but i can claim it back so doesnt matter that much to me. not really sure if there are any ways around it.

I dont find it that stressfull to be honest, but im a relaxed kinda person
