Evening!

Yes, it's over! 26.2 miles of pounding the black stuff in walking boots and military snowshoes. As somebody who has done 'hard' before I'd say that doing a marathon dressed as an arctic explorer is as painful as any physical test I've endured previously. From 18 miles onward was a total mind workout as the body had already decided that enough was enough. My feet were a totally different shape to what they were at 10am by the time i'd completed the 6hr+ distance.

Luckily my previous experiences had prepared me well and my mile splits were all PB's over what I'd achieved on the training distances. For the first 6 miles I averaged 4.6mph and at the half way point I was at 4.4mph. Previously I'd only gotten to 4.4mph over 11 miles and 4.1mph over 13 miles so I was happy with my speed on the day. My final average was 4.25mph for the 26.2 miles, beating my 4.0mph over the 18 miles i' done a couple of weeks earlier. The extra speed I owe to the awesome atmosphere throughout the course and to the inspiring individuals i met along the way. There were some real heroes out there!!

Of course there were some real lazy bods too and I overtook or stayed at pace with many who had no excuse to be so slow!! lol

As has been mentioned above there is the small issue of the Guinness World Record. Well, it's not been verified yet but given I was 41 mins under the allocated time and I have met all the evidence criteria it should only be a matter of waiting for the official word from the London office. I sent 48Gb of GoPro footage, over 100 images and several witness statements out by courier this morning so hopefully there will be some word back in the next 48hrs. More on that when I hear.

So, thanks to those who have donated and given me support along the way. I'm at over £4000 on the books now so as far as Beating Bowel Cancer are concerned the sponsorship drive has been a great success. The book is still open and the raffle is not being drawn until tomorrow at 6pm so if you fancy a last minute charitable flutter look no further than the links above.

Thanks again,

Eddie

Think I might top it but just staying at home. lol

I need to fully recover from the chemo and surgery still so my priority is now leant toward getting fully well again. Doing the marathon this year was pushing it to be honest and i'm sure my surgeon would have had reservations about me doing it so soon. But, i'm an ex-Marine and that's what i do....... right or wrong! My son is nearing his 1st birthday and I'm on the cusp of being 1 year cancer free so the aim is to enjoy that and absorb as much of 2015 as possible whilst the buzz is still there. 2016 is a long way off and I'll assess my next challenge based on the progress of the next 8 months.

Suggestions welcome though, ha!

Thanks again for all your support.

Eddie
