I'm going down to Poole today from Bucks.

Normal route would be M27, A31 and then A338.

Am I best coming off the A31 at Lyndhurst and going down the A35 to Christchurch and the the coast road through Bournwmouth to Poole OR A31 to Ferndown and then to Poole?

I'll be arriving at the A31 at around 11:30-12:00 if that makes any difference.

Cheers!

Sorry we didn't see this earlier. Your route should not have taken you down the spur Rd if youd panned it right. Just head toward Ferndown and then Canford Bottom. From there head toward Gravel Hill and on to Poole from there. Bast of the bad options.

Took a chance on the 338 and it was actually flowing well when we hit it at about 12:30 in the end. No more than 5 minutes delay.

Coming out Sinday we may follow your route.

Cheers.

It would be helpful if there where signs leading up to the road works to use both lanes and then merge in turn, rather than form a long que of single traffic!

Thats because most people don't know how to use the whole road, and merge as the lane closure starts.

People will wait on the inside lane, then get upperty when someone uses the fully open outside lane, to merge, then isn't let in.

Agree, hence a sign for those who get upset at some one using the empty lane or blocking both lanes. This has also been asked on the Dorset For You web site.

I'm coming down tonight to visit my parents in Bearwood & was going to follow this route but I'm reading some bits to say the water works on the Ringwood Rd have or are due to finish today in which case I could go straight through. Can anyone confirm deny this please?

TIA

I went to go via Ferndown last night and the Ringwood road from Hobbycraft is closed. Signs said 13th for 2 days so I assume it will reopen Tuesday.

Well you weren't stuck trying to get back to Bournemouth on Sunday then. Fuel spillage on the A338 and it was closed. Everything else fked right up.

How the town will get through nine months of this I don't know.

If you mean at the end of the roadworks then yes it is a bit sneaky, however the end sign does not appear until near enough at the last camera position.

I'm coming down again tomorrow - I think I'll head for Ferndown rather than risk it this time listening to some of the stories on here.

Is this fouling up the A31 much? I've got to go to Fordingbridge from Wareham today.

With traffic, the average speed is about 35 (it was yesterday) so give yourself 10-15 mins extra. Busy times may be worse.

Oops sorry - did not realise you said A31.

I've seen no problems at all on that road. Once you get to the top of the 338 it's back to 2 lanes so traffic flows ok.

It's the 338 that averages around 35.
