Men of the South,

does anyone know of a good mobile mechanic that is familiar with the ancient art of balancing carburetors? The old XJ Coupe (4.2) is playing up, twin SU's. Looking for a clean up, jetting and balancing. I dont want to drive it anywhere at the moment as i dont trust it to get me there!! Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Although not mobile (so perhaps no help to you at all!!)

I have used Airey tuning in the past. Might be worth a call? smile

Worth the trip as Tom Airey is a carb guru.

So, first day since last week where i habe had some daylight to tinker. Car started first time after 8 days, which to be fair is normal. As it warmed up it seemed to be staying rich as if choked, and wouldnt start again. Now, i have no idea on the AED on this car but i thought it cant be that complicated as its 40 years old. After checking the aed filter i unscrewed the "guts" to find a little spring loaded contact. This looked a bit gammy so i took it off. Mmmm i wonder? Sure enough it started up. Giving it ample revs it coughed and spluttered all the crap out of its lungs, much to the annoyance of the Mazda parked behind which mow sports twin sooty roundels on its flank. The XJ settled down to a stable idle so i took it for a ragging along Hayling seafront. A few backfires on the first run but after a good Italian tune up everything is cushty. The tell tale now will be cold starting, though keeping it in tje garage should aid this.
All in all a simple fix.
