Hi

I'm wondering if you can help please?

I need a nice pub with a large car park near Brighton Crem, for a drink after the funeral of a PHer

Can anyone suggest anywhere please?

Thank you

A large Pub with a car park near to Woodvale Crematorium is a difficult one. There is plenty of parking in the grounds of the crematorium which is right on the edge of the Lewes Road Gyratory System.

Exiting the Crematorium grounds onto Lewes Road you have got to turn left - trying to turn right across the traffic into the Gyratory system is pretty much a no go! I can't recall whether you can head further into the Creamatorium Grounds and link into the access/car parks for Downs Crematorium and exit onto Bear Road. It might be worth a call to Woodvale to check.

You aren't going to find a Pub with parking nearby, you will need to head out of the town a little bit.

Have DmN's family not arranged anything or is this more for PHer's ?

Heading towards the Seafront there are a few nice Pubs but no parking unless you head up onto the Race Hill from the Crematorium via Bear Road if you can exit that way or via Lewes Road - Hartington Road - Elm Grove - Warren Way and into Brighton Marina via Wilsons Ave. There is Free Parking in the Marina in the Multi Storey and Asda, a couple of Pubs-Restaurants (15ish minute drive)

Or head towards Lewes - if you can exit the Crematorium onto Bear Road Turn left (head downhill) just before the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill TURN RIGHT into Riley Road (this avoids the Gyratory System which is a Pig) follow road to end and turn left onto Coombe Road, at the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill turn right towards Lewes. You could try Stanmer House It's a Lovely Place, I had lunch in the garden there a couple of weeks ago and they had a Wake - it has a bar, coffee shop, restaurant etc the drinks are a bit more expensive than a spit and sawdust town centre pub

The website seems to be more about weddings, events etc etc but when I went we just rolled in for lunch, there were loads of dog walkers having a pint/coffee/ sandwich Give them a call and check that they don't have any events on and are happy for a group to turn up for a few drinks
There have quite a lot of parking also.

Thank you, this is for 'us' rather than the family; it's a bit difficult as they don't think they can face a 'wake', but obviously if they feel like it they will join us

It sounds perfect, thank you again

Not quite on that level, but either the long man in patcham or black lion have decent beer and car parks from memory.
Haven't been to Stanmer for years, from the website I'm really glad it's been resurrected, and looks a good choice.

IIRC the Longman only has minimal parking

The Black Lion has a fair(ish) amount of parking - it's a Harvester

Being a 'native' if you want a route to either of these I can plot you a route that with out manoeuvre your TomTom wink

I have a little bit of business to attend to just down the road from Woodvale tomorrow, if I get chance to nip in/through I will check whether you can exit via Bear Road.

Did a drive by earlier today at Woodvale and you CAN exit at the rear onto Bear Road which bring my earlier Route of Bear Road / Riley Road/ Coombe Road /Lewes Road to avoid they Gyratory system into play.

It's only a 10 - 15 minute run to Stanmer House.
