There's a fixed speed camera just before you turn down the road towards Gunwharf Quays, not sure of the road name but the road is divided by metal gates. I don't think it was a Gatso.. I went through it going TOWARDS the camera on the other side of the road, so if the photo was taken it would of got the front of my car. Does anyone know if this camera is front facing or not? I didn't see a flash. Cheers.

If so then its a forward facing one aimed at drivers going northbound.

It's been there for donks
It's there to get people like me speeding to get the IOW ferry - come down there at excess speed brake to 30 and then back up again to warp speed to get to the ferry on time

Yes, except I was going the other way on the other side of the road, didn't get the most detailed look at it... so maybe it didn't get me then, looking at it I'm sure the camera wouldn't see the reg through the railings. Thanks!

99% sure it triggers off a sensor loop in the northbound lanes so you should be fine...

It doesn't work anyway. I drive through there several times a week, well over the limit, and I've never set it off.

It used to be the highest grossing camera in Portsmouth despite being on a stretch of road that is nose-to-tail for most of the day. But, following a tiff* between the then Lord Mayor and the police, it is widely believed that no fixed cameras are now live in the city. NB HUGE DISCLAIMER: ALLEGEDLY! ...AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME!

  • Lord Mayor Frank Jonas, (an old skool biker and all round good guy) introduced the 20mph speed limit in all side roads in the city, which the police reputedly refused to... ermm... 'police'. Jonas consequently withdrew his support from the City Council funded 'safety' camera scheme. RESULT!

Does anyone know if this camera (Anglesea Road - Northbound) is active at the moment? Or when it was turned off?

Thats a relief! I went passed it about 4mph over the limit without realising and because the camera doesn’t flash I wasnt sure about if i had triggered it. Also since my car is new the registered owner wont currently be me and the speeding ticket wont be sent to me for weeks!!!
Lots of online articles saying all portsmouth fixed cameras are off but i cant help myself but be nervous just in case they have been turned on again

AN interesting read. This explains why everyone flies through the camera at the shell garage northbound joining the M275, personally it’s not worth the risk to try it.

I have seen the speed camera can located by the sea life centre in previous summers though so maybe that’s their tactic now.
