A week past Friday I was driving to work eastbound along the A31. At the Palmersford roundabout some numpty in a white van decided to drive the long way round the roudabout and wipe the front end of my car out. He suggested it was just a scratch and no details should be swapped! My bumper was hanging off, but secure and the passenger side front wing was like an origami sculpture. After I got his details, took photos, etc, I limped home and discovered the passenger door wouldn't open. My trusty cockroach Yaris was destined to the scrapheap after 12 years and 137,000 miles of fault free service. It still had it's original clutch and exhaust. Lots of happy memories and miles taken away on the back of a truck.
I needed a new car. Something sensible for a 60 mile daily commute and family duties. So looking at Autotrader I found a low mileage 2007 diesel Volvo S40. I had phoned the dealer and organised a test drive. This morning just before I left I had another peek at Autotrader and saw a 2008 Mini Cooper Clubman. Test drove the Volvo and liked it as a piece of white goods. Told the dealer this was my first car I had looked at and was going to look at some more cars before I made a decision. Went to look at the Mini and was grinning from ear-to-ear after the test drive. Bought the Mini, picking it up Tuesday. So 40mpg instead of 50+, but so much more character and smiles per mile. Here is to many happy miles in the Mini. 9 year old daughter loves it and the seat for 2 year old will fit!

My wife has a 2010 John Cooper Works convertible and it is a hoot to drive, so I can understand where you are coming from. In fact I have been know to take it in preference to my M5......
