Visited for lunch today. Still smells of fresh paint but already showing itself to be a popular haunt.

Smashed burger and cheesy fries was lovely as was the ambience. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Nice little shop area for t-shirts, hoodies, key rings etc.

I expect that Loomies the biker cafe close by will lose a lot of custom.

Will definitely be back soon.

Do you have to pay to get in?

Drove past it on Sunday on a Goodwood drive, pretty busy. Lay-by was rammed. Can't help but feel that with Loomies nearby it could be a hotspot for silliness.

I'm not sure what to say ? I've been going to the hut for pub club and other meets for years. And I've been to C&M twice now. I've never seen anyone naughtier than a engine being revved. In all that time .

I feel like you think it's going to be like the Ace cafe in the early 2000s completely un policed with people doing rolling burnouts in the street. This just isn't the reality in today's world. These venues have a zero tolerance approach as there licensing is at risk. C&m, B road hunters and fueled will all ban you and kick you out if you piss them off. Even the local meets will ban/kick you out, if you piss about.

Get yourself up there! they've done a cracking job on it. And I'm sure they will do big things with it. It's one more thing Todo/ place to meet it's basically pub club every day!

Right, I'm still not quite understanding so hopefully someone can answer some questions.

It's a pub right? So why do I need to buy a ticket to go to a pub? Do they really consider themselves to be that popular? It sounds a bit big headed.

Do you need a ticket per car or per person?

It says the ticket gives you access to The Yard. Is this just their word for the car park, or is a ticket required to go into the pub itself?

What does the ticket get you apart from being allowed in?

The information seems to suggest you need to pre-book a ticket, but then it also says you can pay on the door.

I still don't understand why I would want to pay to go to a pub? Do I at least get a free drink or bag of crisps out of it? Otherwise why wouldn't I just go to a pub that I didn't have to pay to go to?

Alternatively am I missing the point entirely and it's not just a pub?

I’m with you. Why pay to go to a pub?

There is something for everyone. This is not for you if you haven’t gleaned the answers from their website, and info online. Their other two venues suggest this is a business model that doesn’t work….

That doesn’t answer any of my questions.

Consider it as paying to enter a car show. I’m a want to be hipster, but these places just seem a little try hard. But people love it. It depends if you like being around like minded people or not.

I have recently discovered that having an engine between your legs is the way forward. But I do dislike most bike people. So I avoid the usual hangouts. I’m sure I’m the weird one.

I think it became ticketed at the original venue due to being overwhelmed at the weekend so they've applied the same model to the latest place. I've only ever been once, it was midweek during the day so very quiet. I think if it was on my doorstep I'd go to some of the events but I know what I'm like, I get bored very quickly at these sort of things. Still, if it gets likeminded petrolheads together it has to be a good thing, right?

C&M agreed with me when I said the above on a Facebook post when someone was talking about "their local". I guess it's whatever customers and or C&M want it to be.

Well a local is what you want it to be. But considering they have the same setup as the pub that closed before they took over I don’t know how you can’t call it a pub? They have their own beers on taps, a bar drinks fridges behind like a pub, serve food like a pub. They do have a coffee and cake counter now but many pubs now offer similar to maximise the use of the venue. The only difference is they have a shop to buy merchandise.

However they have done a great job of it, it looks great and I will happily pop in to meet friends Monday to Friday when it’s free but I can’t see myself paying to get in at a weekend.

What it does well though is having a motoring theme attracts petrolheads. I went last week and 2 Alpine’s, 2 GR Yaris’s and a few fast German machines so I suspect there will always be some interesting cars and people to chat to.

We popped over last Tuesday and concluded pretty much what you have said, we'll quite happily visit the place during the week but will avoid week-ends. Food was okay a burger and chips and a couple of coffees cost us £20 each. I'm sure it will be a success.

We ended up eating at Loomies £13 for food and drink obviously more dated inside but always an option.
