Its down to simple finances.
Panzer wagons cost more to buy but, when sent to auction, a high(ish) mileage silver E320 cdi auto estate fetches a damn sight more than a similar aged petrol omega, vectra or mondeo. Also, there isnt really a credible alternative to the 6 pot german diesels. The vauxhall diesel v6 is about 50bhp of the pace as is the alfa/fiat 2.4JTD, the only hope on the horizon for something different is the subaru flat 6 !

The evo's were sold to south yorkshire last year and there are no AMG's on the fleet.

Well, driving past Waterhall (Brighton) this morning, low and behold I see 6 BiB getting ready to do a mass traffic stop, and found their (unmarked) cars hiding round the corner

There was one what appeared to be 'civvy' with them, and Im guessing his car is the silver one far left as it was the only one covered in England football stickers and I doubt the BiB are allowed to go that far undercover?

Bear in mind that many of the covert cars are not used for traffic duties.
You may see one blasting around but the drivers probably dont care less about speeders etc as they could be anti terrorism, drug squad or armed response (Fying squad etc). These wont use lights etc unless they have to as obviously if they are covert they weant to stay that way.
Hants have at least 3 Black octavia RS's at the mo.
A BMW 335 in silver.
Ive beem informed they have two imprezzas (think silver)
Audi A6 in dark grey (dont think this is traffic car)
I have been led to believe they may have an Lotus elise that they are going to try to use to get info/catch boy racers etc at meets .(would have chosen a skyline/evo myself.

Not anymore. The practise of swapping the plain cars stopped in sussex 5 or 6 years ago. occasionally there will be a gathering of these cars for a particular operational reason but basically the same car will always be in the same area. So on the A23 its a silver saloon or whatever Surrey are running out of Godstone these days, possibly a Saab 9-3?Having said that, while the traffic boys have become more predictable there is always the chance of getting picked off by a roaming ARV or ANPR plain car ( though the chances of getting done for excess speed or minor road traffic offences is markedly smaller ).
