Half the covert cars in Sussex you guys are talking about, are nothing to do with Traffic Enforcement . It is therefore somewhat naive to mention their details and registration numbers on this forum, since this is an "open house" that anyone can view. The Evo's are fair game but the others are not.

Yes and I do know what I'm talking about....

Not sure if its an unmarked police car or a 'covert' car, but spotted near Horsham yesterday a new BMW 5 series in cobalt grey. Only noticed because he left his stick on blue light on the roof.

I obviously dont know what Im talking about but thought Id give you a 'heads up' anyway

Saw a guy pulled over on M27 a few days ago by the black Skoda and they appeared to have a film cameraman there too.
I knew the BBC were doing the Police, Camera, Action programme but thought that was ages ago?

Perhaps Mungo can assist?

I saw what I believe to be a silver Scooby shoot by me on the blues in excess of 120 MPH westbound on the A27 in Hove around 11pm last night. Not one of our local unmarked cars, and deffo police as it had the little LED sign in the back window. Anyone seen similar around Sussex?

Not Unmarked BiB as such, more of a 'heads up'

For those who use the A23 regularly, the BiB have started using the hidden 'ramp' on the northbound carriageway between the Pyecombe Bends and Hickstead (the nice long straight bit?) for sneaky hand held camera action. See them a couple of mornings a week at the moment.

You have been warned!

Its such a shame, some kindly council worker a few weeks ago cut all the grass around this 'ramp', so now they cant hide any more...oh my heart bleeds for them hehe

Funnily enough, havent seen a police car there since the trim scratchchin

There is silver BMW 530 (02 or 52 plate) that does the rounds near A31/338 and M27.

Seems like we have a new unmarked car on the A23. Spotted this morning flying northbound, all lit up like a Christmas tree, one of these:

Be careful out there

Saw a dark blue/black Omega yesterday, blokes inside had stab vests on so not that 'covert'. I previously hadn't mentioned the 4 scruffy cars and plain blue Transit coming put of Lewes all with lights/sirens going and full of Scruffy blokes aswell as I assumed these were 'covert'!!! Thats the difference as far as I'm concerned, uniformed cops onboard are not that covert really are they? And while we're on the subject why do we have so many unmarked cars stopping speeders? Surely marked cars are better in that they prevent the speeding from happening in the first place. Rant over.

Unmarked cars are the best way to observe some horrendous driving, is someone going to drive like an idiot when he can see a marked Volvo or Merc behind them, Dont think so, although a number of people fail to notice the marked cars and continue to speed along and get stopped.
So we get out there in a unmarked cars and hey presto, we observe the driving which can cause accidents, is anti-social and are able to enforce road traffic law.

Spotted a silver Evo (GX05 ???)this morning at Pease Pottage, it has blacked out rear windows so that makes it more difficult to tell it's a plod car.

Slightly o/t, but in the East End today, I saw an unmarked, white Renault Scenic that had pulled somebody over.

Sneaky!

Got saved from an unmarked car by a speed camera (no less!) a few months back.

Had to slow for the static camera on the A27 at the top of Hammerpot Hill, took a nosey look sideways at the silver Merc in the inside lane and caught sight if their uniforms!

Drove very sensibly for about 6 miles and cringed when a beat-up Mondeo with bad looking body-roll flew past us - that got the unmarked off my back.

Maybe the scameras aren't all bad...

Has anybody else seen the newly erected signs on the A23 between Brighton & Crawley. They are still covered up, but I think they say "unmarked police cars are patrolling this road" Does this mean they are putting more unmarked motors on this stretch?
ps GU05 Evo is still around, spotted in B/H last week driven by a uniform

Yes. Was reported on the local radio last night that the signs would be unveiled today, although they still had one cover on when I went past at 9am this morning, but you could just make out the wording. They said on the radio that the police are putting more unmarked cars on the A23 following the (IIRC) 8 deaths on that stretch in the past 3 years.

Funnily enough, I logged on to post this very point, but you beat me to it

Like he said, most are not for road traffic offences; for much more serious stuff.

VERY strange. Just as I was reading this thread, I heard a siren and looked out of the office window to see an unmarked silver Audi estate crossing the Queen Street junction near the naval base in Portsmouth.
