That makes me feel better.
I'm looking at an MX-5 and for a decent Mk2.5 it looks like it'll cost me around £550-600 to insure. In your face! tongue out

I have spoken to him before, they weren't competitive for me though! frown

Congrats, an interesting choice (in a +ve way), hope you've picked a good one.

Cool light effects on the shot I've quoted - guess that's what you spotted too.

It's why I love taking shots in car parks, & with a body like the Jags, someone like you with the right lighting would have a complete field day I imagine trying to capture all of it's subtle curves & lines.

But good move on the '5...I'm surprised you're going for a Mk2.5, how come?

My fairly recently acquired MR2:

And the missus's:

We're not intentionally sad, but whilst looking for one for the missus, I came across my green one in Silverlakes salvage (cat c). She didn't want it as it wasn't black, so I thought I'd get it. Then she found her black one.

Both pretty mint, mine even more so, but the rad has just pissed itself, so getting a new one this week. Well happy with it though, the handling on these things is awesome straight out the box!

Haha, there's a saying there somewhere...

I do agree, hers is nice looking, especially with a t-bar and leather, mines not leather and just has a sunroof but it is slightly tidier.

I just can't wait to get it on some decent back roads!

But good move on the '5...I'm surprised you're going for a Mk2.5, how come?
I decided on a '5 and then started looking at MK1s (a friend at work has a nice one!) and realised you need to spend a fair whack for a decent one so started looking at Mk2 & 2.5s.
My mate at work recommended a Mk2.5 as they had some additional chassis bracing (I think they're something like 30% more structurally rigid!!) the 1.8 gained VVT for a bit of extra power and a few other bits and pieces.
As it's an only car I want a decent tidy one, so having a look at the moment to get my head around the never-ending specs and special editions! hehe
Planning to buy in the winter once prices are (hopefully!) deflated a little. smile

What sort of budget are you looking at Luke? Might be worthwhile joining the MX5OC just to get a look at some members' cars up for sale. Not cheap, but usually well looked after.

BTW I'm surprised that you can't get a good Mk1 cheaper than a good Mk2.

Decent Mk1s are getting pretty rare.
The lack of pop-up lights doesn't bother me at all, so I'm quite happy to look for a Mk2. It's much easier being there are a whole host of tidy ones!

I'm looking at spending around £6k on a Mk 2.5. I have indeed looked at the MX-5 OC, haven't seen anything that has interested me yet.
I'm hoping to get the swap done in late dec/jan when my insurance will have been renewed and when prices should (hopefully!) be at their lowest! smile

I'm no longer a member of the OC now (Jeez, don't go to any club meetings down here unless you like cream teas and steam railways. Mind boggling...) but I'll keep my eyes open for you.

And remember - mileage is not an issue with these motors. 160k on the original engine on ours, and the last 100k has been done with the super charger.

Happy hunting!

ETA Just looked at the August issue of the OC magazine and there were some very good examples of both UK and import Mk 1s with max price £3,250. One '92 model only had 55k miles on it!

Keep looking matey.

It's lucky I'm in no hurry to change (insurers! rolleyes) as it's allowing me time to read about all the model changes, facelifts and special editions! confused
I've spoken to a couple of Mazda main dealers that have nice cars in stock that seem relatively good money. smile

Here's hoping for a new car for the new year!

Shall be used for commuting for the next few months while my '5 is off the road getting repaired.

On the plus side, my insurance on the Jag is cheaper than the 5!! thumbup

Loving the Jaaaaag mate! Thats one of my guilty pleasures right there, been toying between one of them of the higher priced E39 5series, just not sure I can justify running a Big Jag...
