Im from Chandlers Ford (A small village full of OAP's, just south of Winchester)

The road from Basingstoke to Alresford is reasonably good. Drove it a few times on the way back from college

Basingstoke is the only place where I have ever seen another PH'ers car (Blue Accord estate)

aye the candover vallye route as its know is not a bad drive. But its getting more popular as a cut through as the traffic on the 339 into basingstoke by the hackwood roundabout is a joke. By going that way you join the que near the end.

Some lovely villages through there though.
