Alright, essentially I'm taking a (very nice) lady friend out for a meal early next week. Both of us live in Southampton but fancy a place away from the traditional city centre pubs and restaurants. Decent food is a must, but preferably not extortionate prices (sadly I'm not a rich man hehe), and I don't mind driving outside the city limits, but preferably not too far. Anyone got any recomendations?

I'm not sure if it's too far, but the Titchfield Mill just off J9 does good food and is very reasonable!

That would be one of my choices. Foods good and pretty reasonably priced.

The Old Forge in otterbourne is quite nice aswell.

I went to Terra Vina for my Birthday the other week, was absolutely fantastic, its just in the forest as you head out of S'ton via Totton.

Alternatively, you could try Berties in Romsey( www.berties.co.uk) which has a decent car park, fantastic food, decor, staff, and even bedrooms if you get lucky, but then I would recommend it because its my dads place! In all seriousness though, well worth a look and I'm sure your lady friend would be impressed. If you do go, ask if you can have a seat in the conservatory.....

I would suggest...

Regina's in Botley. Great Italian, food is always good there, daily specials board.

Bishops Waltham Wine Bar, good food, cosy and a nice place to take a date.

OK, two suggestions for you, both really good pubs with excellent food.

1/ Milburys. Off the A272 near Cheesefoot head.

2/ The Bush Inn.

Both are excellent pubs for a first date. Think top notch grub, good beer, quaint, open fire etc. etc.
Milburys even has a well complete with donkey wheel. Haven't seen any donkey's there though.

Good luck. wink
