Seriously, use a spare piece of timber against the edge you are about to hit in so you don't damage the flooring plank.
Is it plain tongue and groove, or the click together stuff?
T&G, as suggested use a block of wood and a hammer, maybe run a plane or coarse sandpaper on a block to take the corners off the tongue (and maybe the groove) to get it started.
When I did ours, which was the plywood/hardwood faced stuff) I found it easier to get one end in and then swing it into place so that I was gradually getting the joint together rather than trying to get it all in at once.
The click stuff, I think you have to put in at an angle and then drop it down flat.

it is from a diy store (same name as a certain ford)but not there own brand stuff
Nick its all about price with these stores, when and if you get it laid your find it will chipvery easily.
Speaking with 28 years in the flooring business your best bet is to pay a little more and opt for Quickstep.
