Can anyone recommend anywhere in Hampshire that can tint tail lamps? I've had a go with some film and whilst I like the look (18% tinted) I'm not happy with the finish!

What film was it? as I have heard of www.lamin-x.co.uk being good stuff.
Another inexpensive route is using a pair of tights, heard that back in my Ax days!

But with regards to spraying them I believe you can take them any bodyshop half decent as majority of it is laqure.

It was a pre-cut film from the USA, problem is the 300C's tail lights have a lot of curves! What I really want to achieve is a similar shiny finish to the paintwork and perhaps the lights colour matched to the black metallic of the paint. I'll make some enquiries, I think there's a half decent body shop down in Woolston, Southampton.

You can do it yourself with spray cans of light-tinting spray, or get a body shop to spray them up for you. They'll use a mixture of the paint you want (around 5%) and clear lacquer (around 95%). Be sure to leave your reflectors alone though, as they need to reflect red to the rear.

Its easy to do mate.

Tint them leave the paint to go off fully then lacquer to stop the tint form wearing off over time, them sand flat and polish. did the rears on the golf

I used folia-tec stuff you used to get in halfords. Heres a quick guide to how I did the ones on the VR.

started off by getting some crystal clear rear lenses

then i set about tinting them

i left them over night to fully go off then added around 5 coats of lacquer, which when dry i sanded with sone fine grade wet and dry paper eg. 1500/2000 grit to level off the orange peel.

then just polish up untill they sanding marks have gone

Yeah I think you're right. Problem is that you can't just go and get chrome bulbs from your local car accessory shop, they have to be sourced from the USA!

Just google Silvatec Bulbs - there's loads of online UK suppliers.

Stef - Contact autobulbs direct in Southampton. THey are in Shirley. It is basically a warehouse that does mail order but you can pop in as well. I got my silvatech bulbs from them, and some LED bulbs as well. If they dont have them then i doubt anyone will.

Problem is that the bulbs in my SRT8 are American fitment and nobody in the UK sells them, I have got some in the front headlamps which I got from the States, should have bought 2 pairs! The bulb number is 3157/3757.

Bugger! Just done a quick search and I can only seem to find the orange ones of those. Damned Americans - why do they always have to be different? wink

Exactly! But hey, the car makes up for it in so many other ways!! I managed to get my best 0-60 time of 4.16 seconds this morning. I think I'll leave the bulbs and spend the money on petrol!!

Good grief that's brisk! Sounds like you're going to need all the petrol money you can get!

Yes it's the kind of look I was after, some fellow owners in the USA have had their's colour matched with the paint of the body and they look very good, but there's then the issue of falling foul with the law I guess.

These are done by a US company using the same paint as the car body and more the kind of look I was originally after

The more I look at mine the more I think I quite like that big chunk of red on the rear end!

The standard lights look 100x better!

Crystal Red lights on the rear of black cars is the way to do it!!
