Help - Garage doors, need a new one!

I have also just had a brand new garage door fitted by David and Simon. Very pleased, couldn't recommend them enough!!

Been a lurker on here for years. But now a reason to post. Another good job done by Doorman, I'm very pleased with the door, the workmanship and the finished appearance. Am particularly pleased how they've improved the overall look of the doorway with trim panels to cover some scruffy brickwork.

update on my experience of the Doorman - recently had probs with the aforementioned fitted door not closing and they popped round and sorted it all out under warranty - no fuss - no charge - great service - thanks Doorman!

Hi Doorman,

Any chance if your near Bognor at some point you could pop over for a quote. Want electric opening. Should be std size door.

Not going to do it straight away as whole house has been ripped out to be redone.

Just if you are in the area or I can send pics, u could give me an idea of cost and what's best?

If its not too much trouble could you kindly give me some feed back as the make/model of hardware that has be quoted and whether there are any potential pitfalls. FYI Usage of the electric door will mostly be on the weekends, so not for daily use.

Two different quotes i received included the following identical gear:-

-Garador horizontal Ribbed door
-New steel frame
-Powered by the ProMatic motor (without battery backup for when there is a power cut)
-2x black remote controls
-Removal and disposal of old frame and door

All in, inclusive of VAT & fitting cheapest of the two was £1,200

Had a good read of the Garador and Hormann brochures and they look well put together bits of kit.


Another estimate received by a fellow resident and verbally discussed briefly was for a Novomatic 533. Not sure of the make of the door but price wise it was just over £1k. Sorry i cannot be more specific.

Security wise, should both of the above be able to stand up to break in attempt?

Do i need to service the door/motor annually?

I understand the the ProMatic is a sealed unit with 5 year warranty. Do they tend to have many issues?


Is price about right?

Price is about spot on for the Garador/Hormann The Promatic will give you the best security in comparison to the Novamatic as it has a manual overide locking device if the door is forced.
The Pro has no issues and is completely maintenance free however you CAN NOT add battery back up to this unit at a later date, you will need the Supramatic version at a cost of + £100 & then + the battery pack.
Make sure you get the latest system called Bisecur at no extra cost as this allows you to identify if your door is closed or open from inside your property.

Thanks very much Doorman for your above.

Just referred to the brochure with regards to the Bisecur Optional inquiry door position system that you mention. Seems like a very smart bit of kit and worth having! How much does this option normally retail at? Will try of course to get it thrown in in the deal as you suggest. The Bisecur system was not mentioned to me when i went to the showroom to have a look at the door. I was only showed a remote that was black and only had 2 buttons. Both buttons did the same thing. I live in a block of flats but have a clear line of sight to my garage from the study window...approx 20-25 meters away. Would the Bisecur pick up the Pro at that distance?

Sorry i have a few more question if i may....?

Just out of interest does the Pro have the ability to change the timer on the light? i.e. 30, 40, 50 secs? Can you have the light permanently on if you are working in the garage?

What happens if say the door comes into contact with an object? Does it go into reverse or just stop dead?

Is there any kind of rubber lip you can fix to the bottom of the door to stop leaves blowing into the garage if there is a gap?

After a recommendation on here, these guys have just fitted a double roller door (an SWS Seceuroglide Excel, for what it's worth) to our new garage. Pleased with the results - it seems a decent quality piece of kit and it wasn't much more expensive than it would have been for me to buy an inferior door for self-installation.

im looking at carteck and hormann sectional garage doors, had a few local firms round and quote some quotes but they all seem to have a word to say about there competition and i get a bit fed up of all that..
