Roger that. Picking my brother up in Ormskirk at 6.15am, or do you think earlier? I have only tried once before and aborted at the Sandpiper after waiting 2 hours to get off the M58 roundabout.

Ouch!
How early is early?
Having to drive as it don't live near a train station. Never been to the air show before.
Where is best to park?

Well, I was planning on dropping by my brother at Ormskirk at 06.15 hoping to see Southport and car parks for 09.00, so leaving the house at 05.30

Parking is all signposted and you'll be directed dependent on which direction you get to Southport from. Follow the AA signs!

Whose stupid idea was an airshow anyway?!

On site parking - Parking is charged at £6 per car and is only available on the day. Parking on the beach is only available this year if travelling from the North/East and will be limited. If you are travelling from the North you will automatically be directed to beach parking and Marine Drive car park. If you are travelling from the South you will automatically be directed to the Esplanade car park and Victoria Park. If you are travelling in from the East you will be automatically directed to beach parking, Marine Drive car park and Princes Park car park.

I'm planning on going. I'm glad you've said that about parking, that helps to justify my decision to pop up on the train as I'd imagined it would be very busy.

As I am such a nice guy, here is some local back roads from the m58 to Royal Birkdale. If you park up somewhere around there, it should be pretty easy to walk through to the front.

Any questions, feel free to drop me a PM as the traffic is horrendous usually and any way I can help I will do!

Just been the promenade an hour ago to take the dog for a walk.
Was thinking about going tomorrow but traffic will be ridiculous and I can't see the trains being any better.
Really wanted to go too. I guess the weather will make my mind up in the morning.

The wijit three are going by rail, not going to be fun but we'll be happy to just get there.
Take care guys, have a good day.

Can anyone let me know what the traffic was like??
I did post in the planes bit about going, I was thinking of park and ride out near Crowland Industrial Estate but is it really that busy? I only live 45 mins away and was planning on taking my 6yr old lad so it was more for the general experience for him rather than die hard plane spotting. Any feedback welcome.......

Left Northwich at 9:15 this morning and were parked up by the Southport Eco Centre by 10:30, my satnav took me though Maghull and we totally bypassed Ormskirk. It took nearly as long to get out of the car park coming home though...
Show wasn't bad but there were a lot of no-shows, mainly due to the weather. If you go tomorrow you should see 558 as well as the 2 Lancs.

Just booked the train to save all the hassle, change in Liverpool, £14.50 return for me and the lad so probably a lot less fuss overall, to be honest it was trying to get out of southport that I was dreading.
My lad can't wait, not sure if it's the planes or the train ride that he is looking forward to the most!!!

We went today, good day in spite of the weather causing a few no-shows. I would suggest getting something to eat at the end of the day and letting everybody else go home instead of catching the train soon after the display ends. Make sure you take him to look at the Army and RAF display tents towards the control tower. There are some great folk there and he will come away with a couple of goody bags. Have a fantastic day.
