Ok so I have 6 weeks left of my commute from Birkenhead to Trafford and its been relatively fine, a bit heavier now but ok however in the morning from when I hit the M56 at Cheshire Oaks its nose to tail till Runcorn.

I hot it at 7.30 ish maybe 7.45 is this a bad window or just "normal" and I have been lucky ?

I drive along the M56 (Chester to Manchester) about once a week at that time, but often later, say 8:30. Sometimes its okay and sometimes it very slow. But on Monday morning it was terrible. The reason is the roundabout at J12 for Frodsham and Runcorn is being dug up. So it's causing a huge tailback for traffic leaving at the junction. Normally traffic does not back up at the junction onto motorway. So it's causing nose to tail from J14 to J12, and as soon as you get past J12 it opens up.

fking fantastic this morning.

Some cock had decided it's very funny to close the East bound junction to Runcorn, so all the traffic has to carry on up the Warrington North junction, go round the roundabout and come back down the M56 and come of at the Runcorn West bound junction.

And the result ? 10 mile an hour traffic from the start of the M56 until Warrington North. About 20 miles of ste. From my house to the Runcorn turn normally takes about 15 minutes; 45 minutes this morning. Thanks for that.

By Warrington North = turn off for Daresbury/ Preston Brook. That's what I know it as. I came that way few weeks ago just to miss Rock Savage.

I was thinking of that way when I next have to go to Manchester - or, even worse, taking the train.

My sales guy refuses to go on the M56 at the moment !!

Went through the Birkenhead Tunnel at 5.30 last night and we queued IN the tunnel for 1 hour 15 mins. The Dock Exit lights were on green for 4 seconds out of every 60 !!!

Got to the end, turned right and headed back to Birkenhead. Sod Costco.

fk me. I left the middle of Manchester at 15:20 and got back just now at 20:00. 4 hours and 40 minutes for a journey that normally takes me about 65 minutes in the middle of the afternoon.

Just finishing up a contract this week in Didsbury. Commute from south of chester to work was taking 1 hour (8am start) during school holidays, now taking around 1h40m. Luckily I managed to get to the A49 junction tonight so only took an extra 10 mins to get home (get to Daresbury around 5pm) A mate from the port got off at the same junction at the same time and it took him an extra 1h30 to do the A roads. Won't be doing a south manchester contract again, the m56 is crap.
