I used to buy used racking (and desks, for that matter) from a variety of places, always used to be someone in the Yellow Pages selling that kind of stuff so it must come from somewhere. Whether increases in business rates and so on have priced the furniture warehouses out of existence I don't know, I'm going back probably ten years.

I am an auctioneer for liquidators and administrators - we sell this kind of stuff very regularly

Pallet racking sells well unless very lightweight/poor condition/short uprights but transport costs can represent a high percentage of value

other racking needs to be very clean and of the bolt free variety, in which instance it will do ok

most other types of racking get very little money indeed

office furniture has to be very clean, reasonably modern, reasonable quality in which case it does ok. a quantity of matching furniture always helps. Chairs that are not pristine aren't worth shifting. Older (often better quality) dark brown wooden heavy desks which have anything wrong with them cosmetically are particularly difficult to shift

Basically with the exception of pallet racking, condition is everything therefore, because so much is available on the market (both used and cheap new stuff, built to a budget - basically the office equivalent of a DFS sofa) that if it's not absolutely right, people don't want it at any price. The more heavily customised or unusual, the more it costs new but the less it's worth used. This kind of kit also suffers from a high bulk & weight to value ratio which doesn't help

I might know someone for the racking if you can send me an email with details of it?

Cheers,
Bryn.
