Hi all,

As the title states, my wife's hired me a Caterham for the day. Any recommendations re good routes? (picking it up from Northwich).

Was thinking North Wales.

Thank you

Ian

Oh ... and group prayers for the rain to hold off please!

Thank you Keith - I didn't know what it was - I do now (thanks to Google).

Looks very good.

(I'm getting my Monaro back next week (after an engine rebuild) - might even try it with that as well over the summer).

Best

I have done this route a few times over the years, twice in the last month in fact. The triangle can easily be incorporated as the route crosses the tip at Cerrigydrudion.

Perfect roads for my 111s, would suit a Caterham fine.

North Wales does have its own micro-climate though!

Hope its dry for you, sure you will enjoy the roads and the Caterham.

Hi all,

Due to inclement weather on the day, deferred my trip until Tuesday this week (26th) – and I have to say a BIG thank you to Simon Clough who, without hesitation, suggested that it would be better if I waited for a better day, weather wise.

I will post a bit more information (I planned a ‘hybrid’ of the suggested routes) when I get more time.

In a nutshell, I had a fantastic time – the Caterham I hired had done less than 500 miles, it was beautifully turned out and prepared; the whole experience was faultless.

Simon was absolutely ‘bob on’ when he suggested that a 1.6 was a great choice for a road trip – not crazy as regards racing to a ridiculous speed but still lets you experience the great aspects of the car. I can see the appeal.

I’ve done the track days (Ferrari, Stock Car, Formula Ford etc) … but this was a very different and very unique enjoyable experience. Freedom to go where we wanted without the rush or pressure from an instructor.

I have to say that it was very strange to drive home in my 6.2 litre, 500 BHP Monaro (that felt like I was driving a truck!).

Anyway – thank you for the suggested route guys – and thank you again for a memorable experience Simon – it’s certainly something I’d recommend.

Oh – and here’s a link …
