A non-PH friend is asking for help. Here's what he wrote to me:
the engine cuts out sporadically as in the electrics of the engine goes out but not the lights or the radio. Normally happens in the mornings just after starting. I got an electrician to look at it and he said it could be the cam sensor on the side of the engine which if I it is then no problem but it might be some sort of timing chain which I don't quite understand. But the mechanics I spoke to said if it is then it's a big job.
I know I can't help him since I'm not there. Can anyone give some advice as to where for him to go? He's sort of man that gets ripped off all the time, and he has no idea of how cars work, so he needs someone who can be trusted.
Thank you very much

His he or any friends and family in the AA or RAC.

Get one of these guys to come out and connect the laptop to the car and run a diagnostics check.

Any electrical faults, like the cam sensor, or any other engine management sensor, will show up as a fault.

He will then be able to tell you exactly what needs doing / replacing.
