Mythical M18 junction?
Discussion
I've driven on the M18/M180 regularly (almost daily) for about 5 years and I have often wondered this:
Just after the M180 junction (or just before the M180 junction, depending on your view) on the M18, there seems to be a "feeder" lane for a junction that isn't there - is this a junction that's been removed or one that was planned, but never built?

Looks like a junction that hasn't been built to me. Can clearly see teh hexagonal (ish) field where the junction would go and the slip roads partially built either side.
There's the same on the M62: http://g.co/maps/gx9g4

I can add a bit to that.
Because the proposal required an identical services on either side of the motorway and hence double cost of build and operating, it wasn't financially viable based on the anticipated traffic flow.
Hatfield (Doncaster North) was subsequently built on the M180 Junction thus needing a single services for all routes. Also accessible to vehicles doing M180 then North on M18 or vice versa which the other one wouldn't have.
I was Engineer in charge of the Hatfield Services back when I used to have a proper job. Also still have receipt number 0000000000000000000001 from when the fuel station opened (I know that's sad). I wonder what they're up to now?

Just burst out laughing at that whilst watching Deadly 60 with the wife and kids. All looking at me like I'm mental as he's currently antagonising a venomous snake, as you do. Hardly funny though. Damn, she's sussed I've got my iPad now..........there is another area nearby on the m62 which was 'designated' for serivces area back when it opened, as my dad looked into it & back then not only did you have to pay all the costs of building it to council regs, then you had to tender how much % of you profit you would give to the government, hence it did not get built !! the bridge was there up to a few years ago
today useless fact LOL

You do have a point though. It's not often I get the chance to offload my pearls of wisdom onto everyone. Don't get me started on why pubs are shutting all over the place; that one would put you to sleep.
